I attended the NWRA Conference in Ft. Myers and came away impressed with the repairers I met, the commitment they showed by attending and the level of success that most people are having. Regardless of the type of repair system, or the size of the market, repairers are finding ways to grow.
The seminars were excellent. Deb Levy on marketing and public relations. Scott Orth on Internet marketing and advertising (where most of the leads are coming from these days and in the future) and Troy Mason on creating high volume at your location. All were meaningful, backed by success and offered with a lot of good will to the repair world.
ROLAGS was being worked on by the committee, NWRA is taking over the standard from NGA. Reports were given about CARB "Cool Cars" being canceled (and how important that is to the repair industry) and the Lynx tour helped the people who attended better understand how to work within the Lynx machine to maximize their repair volume.
It was the kind of conference you would want to see for the repair industry.
The only downside was that there were few attendees. It's a shame because most of us need the NWRA a lot more than we realize.
Standards are important. If we don't set our own, someone else will set them for us. Having ROLAGS in place takes care of that. Licensing in Connecticut was a major threat to repair as was the CARB issue in California. The NWRA was the organization that stood up for your rights to repair and helped keep legislation to limit your business from passing. And, eventually you will want to show that you are at the peak of your profession by becoming Certified. You will want a strong trade association to provide that certification that is meaningful and has teeth. One that is monitored by a trade association.
Think about supporting the NWRA. The cost is small and as the membership grows, so does the impact of the association.

Feel better after that post, do you? I can't believe you took the time away from the car wash to answer this post.
