I am curious if anyone has found ways to captialize on the "environmentaly friendly" merits of wsr. Is it worth focusing attention on it, and how can it be implmented?

Advertisments on flyers, newspapers, etc?

Selling point for b-to-b, direct sales?

Use it as a selling point for a fleet account?

You might just find an "environmentalist" and open their eyes to your service.

I realize this may be a stretch or may be insignificant...

I thought about this sales point perhaps being appropriate when approching a human resources person to "sell" repairs to their employees or company-owned employee vehicles.

And, in this regard, has anyone had success selling to a large company like this, either to their "fleet" of vehicles or to their employees. This has been discussed before, but I don't recall much feedback or results. I want to give this a try myself. It's near-zero cost advertising, if it can get results.

Jeez, glassdoctor.

"Insignificant"?

Absolutely not.

You ask a question most dear to my heart that should address the core of our business deeper than simply making a buck.

You ask a question that directly relates to WHY I got into this business 17 years ago other than the fact that I recognized an opportunity conveniently coupled with a personal philosophy.

A perfect business marriage.

Every time I repaired a windshield, I stressed to the customer to some degree depending on their interest that I was not ONLY repairing a windshield but just as importantly I was banking energy for them and their families.

I tried to EDUCATE them.

I still do. Even today.

A simple check into the non-renewable energy necessary to manufacture a windshield compared to repairing one should be sufficient to convince anyone other than those who find it difficult to walk and chew gum simaltaneously that we are contributing to a healthy environment.

We give rather than take.

We painstakenly repair rather than brainlessly discard and replace.

Even if they didn't return to me for whatever reason, every windshield that 17 years of customers that considered repairing first rather than replacing because of my sermons has saved our society as a whole a tremendous amount of energy over those years.

Some of our customers are brainless and could care less.

But, I'm sure that many others I talked to over the years considered that energy saving alternative and gave serious thought to repair as a first choice as their own individual way of contributing in some way to protecting the environment.

Forget that approach with fleets unless you know the manager is a tree-hugger for sure.

But, if that is your own personal philosophy toward windshield repair, you won't miss with individuals and you'll end up not only walking away from a repair with some bucks in your pocket but a feeling that you have contributed to the preservation of our environment.

insignificant. No way so.

You treehugger man. :D

I didn't mean "insignificant" with regard to wsr having an impact on the environment, etc. , but rather "insignificant" to our bottom line, to actually bringing in business.

I think it's an interesting topic to see how it can impact our business.

Obviously it's less likely to have any effect on wholesale fleet and dealer work unless, as you say, the manager is a tree hugger. You never know, some manager that is kinda apathetic about wsr maybe has never looked at it this way... it just might change their attitude about wsr. That's the kind of long-shot I was talking about... but it could happen.

For direct retail sales, it seems like a valid selling point. Especially for people who may be sitting on the fence for some reason, not taking the bait. They should feel guilty for not helping save the environment when it doesn't cost them a dime anyway, right? :o

glassdoctor,

Check the following link for the very pitch you are questioning. This press release was picked up and run in all of our local papers and several national newsletters. We still are getting jobs from it!
