Man, I am pretty much taking a "vacation" this week. Today it got up to a balmy 1 degree. Tomorrow forcast is 5 degrees with wind and a chance of snow.

But I have to say it hasn't been that bad most of the winter, and it doesn't stay like this for long. Last week it was in the teens and 20's Monday-Thursday and then jumped to about 50 on Friday, and back to near zero Saturday morning.

I am camping out in hopes of some reasonable temps in a few days. Besides, I don't take much time off usually, so if I have to, what better time could I possibly pick to stay home? 8)

It was a cool 63 today and coverage of the Phoenix Open starts tomorrow on ESPN.

I hope it warms up a bit.

It should be between 68 and 70 at this time of the year and should be normal by the weekend.

Yawn.

Don't even think about moving here unless you are acclimated to at least three months of plus 110 degrees and scorpions are no concern.

(I've been nailed a few times. It hurts. Damn, it hurts.)

I won't easily forget the day about 12 years ago when I was working at a fleet account for four or five hours when it topped out at 122 degrees. Every day in May that year it was plus 100 degrees amd got hotter and hotter through June, July and August.

Bunch of sissies.

I take that back. I was born and raised in Wisconsin and know what it's like to take a shallow breath and my lungs gasp from shock and instant deflation.

A distant memory but not distant enough.

Or ice-fishing and the catch was flash-frozen between the instant I jerked it out of the water and reached for my brandy flask for a shot of liquid oxygen.

A dim memory but one that seems like yesterday.

Bone-chilling cold is not something that is easily forgotten and I feel sorry for those who are presently experiencing that annual event to various degrees or lack of same degrees.

With the exeption of certain replacement people who I won't mention specifically and simply because I am too gentrified and they deserve nature's retribution.

For my compatriots in the REPAIR business, I sympathize.

Only from a distance.

Like maybe a thousand miles.

desertstars, watch for them scorpions when you are kicking back on the front porch sipping a cold one, he he.

Don't feel sorry for us now, cause we don't feel sorry for you in July. 8)

Really, we all just adapt to our surroundings... good with the bad.

The guys we should be picking on are the ones in Hawaii, So Cal, Florida,... who don't get extremes.  Not fair.

Now leave us poor shivering babies alone... I'm gonna go outside now and see if a giant lugie shatters when it hits the sidewalk.

Way to hot here in the summer time with humidity. David,

Your right, the heat is probably worse than the cold. Up north we only experience 2-3 months of really cold weather. Were as in Texas you may have 4-6 months of scorcing weather. I can't imagine how many times you've burned your arms simply by reaching over a hot shield or fender. We also have the advantage of being able to layer clothes to stay warm, whereas your disadvantage is not having the legal option to take all yours off. That of course is assuming you don't have any nudist camp accounts

 Wonder if Scott has any marketing strategy on his CD's for aquiring these accounts? (just poking fun Scott!)

What takes more time? Cooling a hot shield or warming a cold one? I think that question should be left open for debate! Personally, I've found cooling them is faster. Probably has something to do with Michigan temps never exceeding 98 degrees in summer though! We also have the advantage of experiencing snow. Everytime a plow truck hits the road, it equates to higher profits....especially in March. Without sounding like a sissy repair guy in the winter here.....what I really miss the most is sunshine! That's why I got into this business, because I've always had this need to be outdoors everyday and soak up some rays.

Much like you David, I've experienced the extremes from both ends. After closing my glass business I had a great job with Bosch Braking Sytems for two years until I was laid off. I was a prototype test driver and tech. Fun job actually! The worst I've experienced with low temps was when I spent 8-10 weeks a year in Baudette, MN. Check it out on your weather web, getting down to -41 degrees this week. That was the coldest I ever experienced. The hottest was in Arizona testing in summer for 6 weeks. Have to admit that Arizona was worse than Baudette!!!! We all baked during that session!

Basically, it's winter here and just feel like complaining a little when business is slow. I shoudn't though, you by far have us beat with undesirable repair conditions throughout the year
