Easy, gtrepair.

I didn't mean to sound all negative about cracks. True, I don't focus on cracks, but do them, and I've been a repair-only guy for over a decade. I thought I was being balanced and reasonable about the issue. It's a good issue to discuss... hopefully a lot of guys will give their thoughts. I hope to learn something, perhaps brush up on crack do's and don'ts, etc.
I believe that most guys doing cracks don't actually know what they look like down the road. Granted, the same is true for chip repairs too. But, you don't hear about failed chip repairs from experienced wsr techs like you do about cracks, so it seems to be an issue. A crack repair that "looks awesome" should not be failing in a matter of weeks.
I didn't say that there is no good crack resin, but simply that you can pick any brand, and find guys who love it... and usually others who don't like it. Obviously, "user error" or poor conditions may be the reason of some negative reviews. I can think of a brand X that has been praised by some, and absolutely trashed by others. The magic resin comment was just referring to a utopian "perfect" resin that looks perfect and never fails, ever... on any crack length or type.
I think I have good crack resin, and have no reason to doubt it. But I don't do a lot of cracks, and I haven't "tracked" the ones I have done to see how well they hold up after a year or two.
One reason I don't do many cracks is because I do dealers, so I don't know how old they are. Even when they look nice and clean, you dont' know for sure until you do it. It's a crap shoot... will it be clean or dirty? I have done too many that ended up having some crap in the bottom... $0 charge. I just got to where I don't even look for the "good candidate" ones. Maybe I'll have to break that habit...
But I have found it interesting to hear the experience of other guys. I like to hear about actual documented long term repairs. (Same goes for pit resin, btw.) Sherm and Gt's posts are good examples. I wouldn't mind getting some GT crack resin... maybe it's the magic resin. I may actually crack the w/s on one of my vehicles and experiment with different brands. No kidding...
Do most of you agree that it's a fact that crack repairs have a lower success rate than repairs?
