Come on folks....
Re: Come on folks....
And I don't see a problem either. I was stating an observation. Noone has posted more on the subject of billing insurance companies directly than SGT. I can understand his frustration expressed in his post and the title of this thread.

Re: Come on folks....
I for one would be asking other users of a product for their input as to having a sales dept. blowing smoke up my back side saying they are the best product out there....screenman wrote: I think there would be far more ability to up sell on the phone than what there is on a forum.
I cannot see the problem, none of us are compelled to answer, sure beats watching television.
So saying that, a private phone call for a question that was asked on a forum of any kind would be better being posted on the forum so others that agree or disagree can post their comment so the person has choices to help make their decision.... If it gets to the point one needs more one on one then they can call when they are ready to step up...
This is were the threads are archived for use down the road to new readers. But please take the time to do your homework first by researching out your question.
I personally do not have a problem with folks saying " I have read all over this forum and JUST can not find what I am looking for" or "I am still not sure on what the answer is to bla bla bla..."
It is just the ones jump on and have not done the research first that gets me going.... I have learned to just turn the other cheek and ignore a lot of this.... I am trying to turn a new leaf.....

Re: Come on folks....
All I did was ask a question. I'm sorry if asking questions upsets you. If this were a REAL message board common questions would be answered in a FAQ that is stickied. And WHY would you do that? Because newer people are going to ask the same thing, again and again. We all have the same questions when we first start out. Instead of getting all bent out of shape, how about just ignoring the post? Instead of coming off like an ass by either (a) starting a thread called "Come on folks..." or (b) insulting a board member, like you have, just ignore the offending post. You don't have to read or comment on every single thread. Shocking isn't it? If it's something you've heard before then move on to something else.D2D wrote:First, can we get clear on this thread being a response to Kingmonkey's, "do you actually need the networks"?.
I was tempted to post, saying essentially the same thing Bryan did. At least telling him to use the search feature. Then, I noticed he has been a member here for over 2 years and this subject was discussed here very recently.
In the past, I've been guilty of "scanning" a post, that is to say, not really reading and understanding the posters questions or points they want to make. Then making a post of my own and ending up looking like an idiot.
I suspect, in this case, that KM may have fallen into this trap. If that's the case, he probably won't get it anyway.
IMHO
If you wanted to be industrious to help out the "noobs" why not STICKY these important threads or write up a FAQ. If you've heard all the questions and know all the answers then do the world a favor and share it with us so we don't have to waste our time reading hundreds of threads and thousands of replies.
You long timers always forget that you were new at one time. The questions haven't changed. Every "noob" ask the same things, again and again. You've got to get use to that. Yes, there's a search function. Yes, everyone should do it. Is that going to happen? Nope. That's like asking the wind to stop blowing. So stop being a blow hard about this stuff. It's just a message board. If you don't want to answer the question, don't. There is no reason to insult other members of this community who asked a question. This is directed at all of you.
God forbid someone ask a ******** question...

Re: Come on folks....
Kingmonky,
While I agree with many of your points, there is no need for profanity. Please review the forum guideline before posting again. The problem with making a list of frequently asked questions on windshield repair forum is that not everyone agrees on the correct answer and in many cases there are multiple correct answers to the same question. If we were to make up a list of say 100 FAQ, the list, and the list of answers, would continue to grow exponentially, in which case that list would become...a forum.
We always appreciate suggestions for improving the windshield repair forum, but would ask that you send those suggestions in an e-mail to myself or one of the other moderators, and keep in mind that we have to try to please the bulk of the membership. Not every suggestion will be implemented, and unfortunately, we are not able to make everyone happy.

Re: Come on folks....
You are absolutely 100% right. But the long timers, the ones that are in business 10+ years, did not even had the opportunity to simply read, and I quote, ''hundreds of threads and thousands of replies''. Instead: we had no place to go to, we had to do all the leg work ourselves and had no doors to knock for advice or help. You long timers always forget that you were new at one time. The questions haven't changed.
Let alone the luxury of simply complaining about ''wasting time'' reading all sorts of advice on a board.
With all respect, it is YOU who wants to start in this business, right? Why would you say that learning (reading) is a waste of time? I don't agree, just use the search on the board and you will find soooooooooooooooooooo many posts. Not all will be helpfull, I do appreciate that, but many will.
Brian is 100% right, in the original post, newbies are soooooooooooooooo lucky to have boards like this one with so many questions and answers, going through all the information can never be a waste of time.
But hang on, I am with you when you say that ''stickies'' for FAQ's would be very helpfull. On the other hand, what I do not appreciate, is the fact that many, I mean many, newbies like to get it all for free, and they want it now. That is just plain stupid, do some leg work, it did took us, long timers, some years to learn. In fact, we still learn. On a daily basis, it never stops. And that is just fine. Again: if YOU want to be succesfull, stop pointing out to what others could or even should do for you, instead, do it yourself. Why do some newbies expect all the answers on a golden plate? Arte we running your business or what, do we get the revenues, or you? Exactly, there is absolutely nothing in it for us, it will all be yours. So do the leg work yourself. Why would other members be willing to answer questions to people who not even had the courtesy to introduce themselves properly, and tell us about where they are located at?
Whatever you do, I honestly wish you good luck. Be nice, take your time.

Re: Come on folks....
You have some very valid points there, Frank. I only found the forum a few years ago and I have found it to be very helpful. When I started my company over 15 years ago I had no forum to ask questions on, I just made a lot of mistakes and I learned more from those mistakes than I did the things I right. Newbies have a luxury that many of us "old timers" did not have when we were newbies in this business, you a have place where just about every aspect of this business has been discussed in length. If you do not have the fortitude to do a little digging and spend the time to learn on your own, I am not sure you have what it takes to be your own boss and successfully run your own business.
Re: Come on folks....
Most everyone here knows my history, both as D2D and Blind Squirrel. I've had my ups and downs, ins and outs. Been banned and readmitted.
I'm here for 2 reasons. The selfish one is I believe there's always a chance to gain new insights and learn things.
The noble one is, I owe it to David Coit to share my experience to help "noobs" and veterans learn and gain new insights.
I met Coitster on this forum 8 years ago. I drove to Dallas and spent 2 days with him. He showed that you really go out and cold call for retail sales and do well at it.
It was this mans total unselfishness that affected me more than anything. If I can ever be half the man he is when it comes to reaching out and sharing, I'll be OK.
That said, I apologize, KingMonkey, I didn't mean to insult you.
There was a time, several years ago, when I spent many hours looking up and reading threads and posts on this forum. I took notes on what I felt I could use and wrote down questions of things to research further and ask other people about. And, I discarded the things I felt I didn't want or need, even though I still learned from them.
It's apparent that the forum moderators intend to maintain the format as it is. So, it looks like the best choice here is to plan on spending some hours reading these threads.
I suggest reading the thread titles to find subjects of specific interest and use a spiral notebook broken up in sections.
And BTW, click on "SGT" and you'll find a list of his threads and posts. He has posted much on the subject of direct billing insurance companies.
