Triple Breaks

Post by ChipMaster52 »

This is what I ran into today. The WS had a triple break within 1 inch of space. They were a combanation star and bullseye.
I wasn't sure how to do them as they were all 3 connected together.
So this is what I did. I drilled the center one first and then filled it first then moved to the outside ones. When I was ready to fill the first one I put a small amount of resin on the outer ones and covered with a curing strip. Then proceeded to do the center one. By putting the resin one the outer ones and covering with the curing strip I stopped the air from coming in and also allowed me to form the vacuum on the first one. They filled very nicely but I wasn't totally happy with the repair as the edge of one of the bulleyes didn't quite fill in.
So I have a question. Can you drill in the edge of the bullseye that didn't fill and create a whole and then finish filling ot or refill it and complete the repair??

On these kind of breaks I sometimes use some black vinyl (electricians) tape to cover the chips I don't want to cure, then finish curing the one I'm working on before going to the ones that are left. Also nice to use sometimes when you have a long leg that you've drilled so to fill it, cure it and then remove the tape on the chip to finish injecting the repair. Don't usually have to do this but sometimes you can't have the injector on two places at once. Nice trick to know.

Yes, go ahead and drill the bulls eye and finish filling it as you said if you have to. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

I have had double breaks and yet there is often a connection between the two, sometimes it is hard to see but it has been enough for me to get two birds with one stone. Then I make sure pit resin is on both or all 3 impact holes using curing tabs or curing tape then cure it.

I just dealt with a multi-break the other day too. In order to completely fill and do a proper repair I had to drill the ends of two legs. It wound up looking pretty good and the customer was fine with it, but I do hate to have to make extra drill holes.

I second Nomads procedure for multi-breaks. You will be much happier with the results and your customers will be impressed.

Great idea Nomad! I have had some complex breaks this week, and they were very time consuming. Thanks for your input.

I know I haven't been in the business as long as some of you. Which is a good thing as I can learn a lot just by reading the older posts. I can also join in and share ideas and not be judged to bad for my inexperience.
When I came upon the triple break so close together I knew that I could just drill and fill one then move on to the next one. So I thought a few minutes and just tried to do what I thought made sence to do. After seeing your replies to this I see I was on the correct path even though I didn't do it exactly the way it should have been done properly.
I do want to THANK EACH of YOU for your replies and your tireless efforts to help others that are newer techs and you are always willing to share your advice with others.

If they were all connected i would treat em as one and fill as normal and with that much damage why drill there has to be plenty of contact point. if it looks like you are losing pressure somewhere put a cure tab on it :? the big uglies are always fun

Your thank you is much appreciated by everyone that contributes here. Helping other people overcome problems is what this forum is all about and I am glad to give away my "secrets" as it helps the industry to become better. I have learned a lot myself from this forum. When you become an old hand then you can pass some of your knowledge on to the new people just getting started.

You never do stop learning though. I'm still picking up tips and ideas all the time.
