Question---Use Insurance, or Dont you insurance

Post by rowdy13 »

I am still working and can retire anytime, and when I do, I will do windshield repair as my retirement job. Here's my question. And remember, I'm getting a retirement from my previous job. Since I"m not needing a whole lot of money, would it be ok to only do cash business. No insurance deals. Out of 100%, how much insurance business will I be losing if I only accept cash, no insurance. What I'm trying to say, is can I make a pretty good living doing a cash only windshield repair business? Maybe some of you can tell me approx what you make in a year using the insurance business. And what do you think you would make if you only did cash business? If I can make good money only doing cash, I may just not worry about the insurance side. any thoughts?

This has been discussed here on the forum a pretty good bit. You can use the search bar above and find a wealth of topics, experiances and knowledge.

You can actually do both! You can do insurance and still take cash for the insurance job! Basically the customer would submit the invoice to their insurance company post the repair and paying you cash! You being retired and stating you don't need much money seems you really shouldn't mind how you get it, as long as you get it right? But, then again it's all a personal preference!

Well, I won't discuss my earnings as that's personal information, However I make a very good living doing WSR & HLR. I come from pre-owning a Mobile Auto Detailing business so my advantage as far as already having a client book is almost given. However I still get up two days a week to beat the pavement, make cold calls, I get out there and get infromt of people. ......."Spread the Word"

Since selling out my Auto Detailing Service and totally commiting to the WSR & HLR industry. When speaking of a ratio or percentage in which my company does in regards to WSR I will say IB=80% and C=20%. I have been thinking here lately of maybe testing the waters myself and encouraging my clients to submit the invoices themselves. I have done this several times up to date and I'll have o say, It's much, much less stress! I have cash or credit immediately and I am done with the repair.

Now what you have to take into consideration is a matter of "Convienence" and "Inconvienence"

Basically, Would I rather my customer gaining the full "Convienence" or "Me"

Either way I still think it's a win, win situation for all parties! Insurance just takes a little longer to get paid so on ,so forth! :ugeek:

I just noticed my question was worded incorrectly. I meant to say "use" instead of "you". I really need to lay off of the 2% milk, and go back to fat free!

I'm recently retired and like you, I dont need to rely on WSR business to pay my bills (thank god for that). When I first started, I hit the pavement soliciting all the car dealers, detail shops, fleet company's, newspaper advertisements and mailings. I had no luck what so ever with them. Thank's to the Insurance networks I have enough business to keep me busy and earn a little extra money. If it were'nt for the Insurance, I would have sold my kit already. Some guys are fortunate enough to have a steady account of customers and make a living off of this, It is a good side business to earn a little extra money very easy, But based on my experience, I would not recommend the WSR business to someone who is looking to quit their day job and do this full time to pay the bills. (just my opinion, based on my experience). Everyone is different and every area is also. I would recommend insurance to keep you in business. Good Luck!
