Having trouble with star cracks

Post by cconnelly04 »

Hello all,
I have been consistently running into a probably basic little problem when repairing star cracks on windshields. The last several times I practiced the repair I have ran into a case where there are still faint crack lines that wont go away. I usually would attempt 3-4 cycles of pressure and suction before completing the repair. I guess my question is what should I attempt to change to make these practice runs more successful?

Do you see any black, green, or shininess in the star break?

Not really, it literally leaves just a very thinned out version of the star crack that was there, I don't know if maybe i need an evaporator or something. Kinda new at the repair thing and star cracks seem to be my biggest challenge. I practice all the time, I just cant seem to get this type of crack for some reason.

If you don't see any black, green, or shininess that means you have displaced the air from the break. The process of a windshield repair is to stop the damage from spreading; restore the structural integrity; and to improve its clarity by at least 80% (The damage will never be invisible). There will always be a scar, think of it like surgery. Below is an image of a star break where the cosmetic appearance has been enhanced by at least 80% or better.

Ok! thank you so much. I was just worried that I was missing a step or something. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you for the imagery by the way. I had an Aegis kit when I first started but I decided to switch to the Delta System and couldn't be any more pleased with the simplicity over all other repair systems!

Kgobin,
Is there a reason I can only see the before picture? I can't seem to move over to the after picture. You might want to fix this so people don't think the left side is the after repair picture or tell me why I can't see the right side.

I am unsure what happened but everything looks fine to me. I have made the image smaller so tell me if this works for you. Is anyone else having issues viewing the image?

On my iphone I couldn't see the after in the first pic. However, I can see the after in both posts on my computer.
