From Nicks-n-Quacks to Nicks-n-Quakes!

Post by nixquax »

A small earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay Area today.
I have a small home based windshield repair business, Nicks-n-Quacks WSR. I had a job in Milpitas at a customers workplace parking lot. I met the customer and the repair looked like it would be easy to do. The repair is what we call a very small star on the passenger side of the WS, a 2010 VW. It was cold outside so I warmed up the windshield a little so the resin (liquid glass) would flow more easily into the damaged area. Everything seemed normal but then I felt the car shake. I had my equipment (injector) on the glass and I thought either someone was shaking the car or we must have gotten a sudden heavy duty "wind" that was shaking the car. Just as it came suddenly it stopped suddenly. I then looked at the damage on the windshield and the tiny little star had become a shooting star with a long trail. I was shocked! I've been doing windshield repair for 10 years and have experienced only 3 crack outs in hundreds of repairs. I called the customer and he was OK with what happened but I felt so bad that he would need a replacement. I gave the customer $100 to help him with his deductable. I think I will rename my business ...Nicks-n-Quakes!

I have had three crackouts in 6 years of fixing chips.
Before I begin the repair , I always tell the customer that there is about a one a hundred chance of the chip cracking out during the repair. I cannot be responsible for that happening since the WS is already cracked and may be unstable. Do you want me to continue with the repair?

;) I did explain to the customer, by the way he was a repeat customer, so I figured it was just good business to help him with the insurance deductable. It was a "freak" accident and not my fault or the customers fault..it was the earthquakes fault!....Thanks for the reply Mr. Bill.
