Going thru Canada, Hey

Post by blemon56 »

Will be RVing in Alaska this summer with a caravan. Thinking the gravel roads will generate some business (I'm sure I'll be fixing mine). A fair amount of travel will be in Canada. For now all my business is cash/check... no insurance work. I'm curious if anyone has any experience doing business in Canada, hey.

I've never been to Canada but am interested in how you taking your repair business on the road works for you. I often thought about going on the road for about a month or two to do some sight seeing. I think my kids would benefit from the experience.

Dr. Chipster... My business is always on the road. I live in an RV and travel continuously. I concentrate on RV and tow vehicle WCR. I've only been doing it a short time. This will be my first time driving through Canada. I'm curious if I'll be able to work there. May have to wait until I get to Alaska.

To work "legally" in Canada of course you would need a business licence just as you would in the US.

Do you plan on only repairing chips and cracks in the rally / caravan? If so, You SHOULD not have any problems... Your rally/ caravan must be from the states and you are traveling with them just like the mechanic that must be with them... Now if you are going to be sitting on the road side drumming up customers, you had better get the 411 on how it works with a US resident working in their country.

My intent is to work with the RVs, toads (towed cars), and tow vehicles in the caravan. I will make sure I'm aware of Canada's requirements prior to the trip. Worst case is I can fix any damage when we get to Alaska. Just thought someone on the forum may have delt with this issue. Thanks.

you could also do the repairs "pro bono" in Canada then collect on the end of the road trip if that is in you finances.. Just to make sure they do not lose the windshield going through Canada.

Just curious...those of you that repair "on the road". What is your warranty?

I really cant provide a warranty like a fixed repair setup, as I'm only in one place for a week or so. I provide a business card with each repair... and will refund my fee if a repair cracks out. So far I've been fortunate, no calls on repairs gone bad... a few repairs that didn't turn out as well as I would like them to, I didn't charge the customer (I'm still new at this).
