Almost all replacement glass is coming from China these days. It does meet/exceed DOT standards (whatever they might be). You can get American replacement glass for most vehicles if you want to pay an extra $50 - $100 per job. I have a shop in my area that gives me wholesale pricing on any glass that I sell to my customers. Most common pre-2006 windshields cost me $100 - $110 installed out the door including everything. I normally add about $30.00 and my price is still quite competitive.

Ive done thousands and thousands of replacements and would NEVER install any piece of glass for $100! That is exactly whats wrong with the replacement industry and why it is a failing hack infested business to be in.

You'd be amazed at what you'll see in the windshield replacement industry these days. We have a multiple replacement and repair chain in this area that not only offers sub $140 replacements but sends out mailers monthly that they'll offer a $80 rebate for anybody with a zero deductible. What this industry has become is scary. I know first hand they buy seconds by the boat loads for cheap and install them daily. (Seconds are shields with defects). All aftermarket shields aren't bad and many insurance company's will fight to have them installed over the OE simply because of pricing. The guys I see doing them for $100-$125 drive up in 30 year old rusted vans or pick-ups with no company lettering. It's a clear sign of the times guys!
