Star Flexer tool
Have others seen this device? A suction cup mounted tool to flex the legs on star breaks? Really? I mean, really? Is this for the lazy repair guy with nothing but time on his hands who can't hold a tool and flex the legs himself? Maybe for the guy with carpal tunnel? Seems like an unneccesary device to me. Anyone used this thing?

It would be for the stubborn stars that need to be opened to fill and lets say you need to be out side to work the injector also. You could say lazy people or just to save time waking back and forth it you can just reach inside the car at an arms length...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're not allowed to mention the UB name here, Brent or Korey may chime in on this one.

I personally feel that is one of the most useless tools in the trade, I would never rely on something so random to do the job that takes skill to get right. Flexing by hand with a probe and looking from the correct lets you see how the leg reacts, how long would that monstrocity take to get off once the legs started to run. As for the sticky pod that holds it on, that is going to stress the area near the damage just getting it to stick.

Re: Star Flexer tool
I would have to agree. When flexing a repair with a probe your in control as to how much pressure is needed. With this tool you would be missing that feel factor. Also, it would become very time consuming to relocate or adjust it for every leg involved. A little scary in my book. At $100 plus shipping, not exactly inexpensive either. If you get the "optional" pieces with it, the price goes over $155!
Not for me, thanks.

That's correct. The mfg in question asked us not to allow the company name on this forum years ago and we continue to honor that request.Frank EU wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're not allowed to mention the UB name here, Brent or Korey may chime in on this one.

Sorry about using mfg name. Just couldn't imagine anyone using it on something that requires finesse and not always steady pressure. I actually laughed outloud when I saw it! Hey anyone want to buy some ocean front property in Arizona?

As beauty, both value and utility are in the eye of the beholder. Chippen Away (utility) Screenman (no utility) and mend master (excessive cost) all have valid points. To lend some perspective, will a $300 bridge do a better job than a $50 bridge? How useful is a 'centering tool'? Does an inspection mirror really provide the advertised level of added value?

To be or not to be......that is the question!
A $300 bridge may not do a better job but it will probably outlast the $50 bridge.
An inspection mirror is the most valuable tool in my bag. It provides all the information needed from the outside of the car thus making a centering tool non-essential.
