Where can i go to get a windshield to practice on

You can buy dw1303 for less then $40 around my area and since its a "half" shield it doesnt take up very much room. I use a piece of scrap flat laminated glass for my practice shield tho.

try a junk yard or another glass shop and see if you two will be able to work with each other also. Trade services..

The autoglass distributors around me (PPG, Pikington, American) have swarms of replacement guys in the morning dropping off their old & picking up their new for the day. I just catch them before they toss them in the dumpster & grab the ones with the least amt. of damage. If they're too cracked up and you dont have some special vice mount to decrease the flex, your practice repairs wont be honest to you.

If there is one available, a junk yard is your best bet. The glass will be in situ, the weather conditions will test you and the aged damage you come across will help you improve your repairing skills a lot quicker. You might also pick up some work from people visiting the yard.

No where better to practice on shields than a junk yard. Your working on a real vehicle in real conditions. If you get good enough at it they may pay you $10-$15 per vehicle. They will wire these out for resale at $50-$100. That's where I started.

Hi, I'm new and in the process of getting my business going. What is a dw1303?

I've done some part-time repairs for a company, but going out on my own and need a windshield to do some more practicing.

Also, what do you put the windshield on when practicing?

A lot of people use wood, metal, or PVC stands. PVC is cheap, light, and once you have your pattern figured out very quick and easy to make. Here is a short video and diagram detailing how to make a glass stand with PVC 1/2" SC 40.

DW stands for Domestic Windshield. I don't have my chart in front of me but I believe a DW1303 is the left side of a 2 piece windshield for a Freightliner truck. It's small and inexpensive so some technicians purchase them for practice. Delta Kits sells a 20" square practice glass if you can't find something locally. A wrecking yard is a great idea if they will let you practice on their windshields.

Go to your local glass replacement store front and ask them if they have one you can have, usually they do in the garbage. Or if you have a local glass supplier around you, they usually keep a garbage can for the purpose of trashing glass. Just a suggestion....
