Warm Weather reminder
To the new guys when the weather gets warmer be more careful the glass gets pretty brittle and its easier to crack one doing exactly the same thing you did last month

Re: Warm Weather reminder
I would consider the glass more "brittle" during the extreme cold. I welcome warm weather repairs as I tend to see easier and better results. When we get into the hot weather of summer, just remember to cool the glass to lower the temp. by shading or other tecniques. Never work on an extremely hot windshield without cooling it to a reasonable temp. to avoid making legs run. In general, warm weather is an excellent time for doing great repairs!

I prefer warm weather too. Not only does the repair do better but the technician does better too.

Re: Warm Weather reminder
I wouldn't say the glass gets brittle. The hot weather causes the PVB interlayer to soften so it allows pressure to flex the glass more than in cold or normal conditions.

I agree that glass really doesn't get "brittle" regardless of temperature. It does however expand when hot and contract when cold, thus making it important to control the glass temp. when doing hot or cold weather repairs.

Re: Warm Weather reminder
Here is one of my many views on this subject. When hot the inside temperature of the vehicle can be higher than the outside, meaning the inner layer of glass will be hotter than the outside. This makes the glass work something like a bi-metal spring, in effect helping to pull any legs open.
Try it on a practise glass, warm the inside glass whilst keeping the outside cooler you may find like I did that you can make a leg run quite easily.

When confirming the appointment with the customer, I always try to get the customer to move the vehicle into the shade and crack the windows open prior to arrival. This will position your repair towards a more comfortable area for both you and the windshield.

Re: Warm Weather reminder
The cold or hot glass is always more sensitive working on one in 50 or 60 deg and doing the same thing on one that is sitting in the sun on a 80 deg day will give a different result. The new guys need to know that careful is the key word on a extreme temp repair be it cold or hot. I guess some foks version of hot is different 80 deg day in the sun and its pretty easy to have a glass temp in the 120 deg or more area the key is cool it and be careful just a reminder
