star break repairs with pic, how to fill tight legs?

Post by BrightFastWSR »

I made two star breakrepairs today made by star break maker, great tool

I tried to fill this star break, but there's still two long tight legs I can't accomplish, I have run at least 8 pressure and vacuum cycle and tried to press from inside to flex the glass, those legs still exist, it seems those legs are very tight.
Can such a repair be accepted by customers and insurance company?
can I drill and make a small bullseye in the middle of each leg and fill them?

I am kind of frustrated with the tight legs, how about your opion in repairing the long tight legs?

the other one

There's amount of glass missing in the impacting points, after I repaired and shaved the pit filler, the impacting point turns vogue although I have applied pit buffering and polishing. Is it common to appear like this if glass missing after repaired?

Thanks.

Try flexing from the outside not inside and see if that helps. The pit looks slightly over scraped from here, when using pit polish us the smallest amount possible (size of a pinhead) the real shine comes when the polish is almost dry, I use my finger tip for polishing.

Screenman, thank you for your attention and your suggestion on the pit filler.

For the first picture, I have ever tried to flexing from outside as well.
And when I flexing outside with a scribe, I can see the legs moving when press on it and then release. However, the resin just doesn't get into it either by pressure cycle or vacuum cycle.

By the way, as I am a freshman in windshield repair, I neglect something.

First about the glasses. Due to the hot weather,I didn't take glasses while cleaning the impacting point of the second picture with a scribe since I don't think there is any danger. Beyond my expectation, a piece of tiny glass just popping out. That would hurt my eye seriously if it went into the eyes since it is sharp and transparent. Everybody take care of it and remember to take glasses. Everything may happen in dealing with the glass. It is so fragile and dangerous sharp staff.

there's another time the resin splash out due to excess pressure.

Be careful...

As it has been said before......good pictures. The grey area at impact point is common upon completion. It appears large and therefore may be a reason why some legs did't fill. Air had escaped on vacumn? Others might not admit it but your final product is what you see in the business. Everyone's goal is to improve the quality of such repairs. You will with more practice. Thanks for the sharing.

When flexing it is important to get the pressure on the probe just right, not enough to make the leg run but enough to get it open. Also keep the flex on far as long as it takes for the resin to either flow to then end or stop flowing due to trapped air, a vacuum session is then needed, you can also of course flex whilst vacuuming.

I take it there is no chance of any UV being present when you are doing this practise, can I also congratulate you on some fantastic pictures.
