Sales Tax Question

Post by jhickman1 »

I see some of yall mentioning every now and then about adding sales tax to your invoice. I am new to running my own business so my question is kind of split three ways.... #1) is this required? #2) is it ___% (your state tax rate) of the whole invoice/job price? and #3) how does this benefit me?
I searched the forum back at least about two years worth and didnt really see anything that answered my question. By the way I am in North Carolina. Thanks in advance for the advice

There is no sales tax on labor sales in NC. Nothing you need to worry about unless you want to start selling a product.

As long as you are a service only there is no tax for NC. If you sell or charge for a product then you are required to collect and pay taxes. A few years ago the state started taxing barber & beauty shops. Its just a matter of time before they get to us again. Some WSR tech sell wiper blades etc...

So if I did windshield replacement (which I dont do currently) there would be sales tax on the windshield but not on the install?
