Re: scratch removal
Check some of the old post. I discovered you need to be professionalyl trained. The little kits only removes faint scratches with little or no depth, and takes too much time to justify the cost vs replacement; Read prior post on the subject and check a company out in Florida that requires training at a fee prior to selling you the equipment. My kit has been in my office since the third vehicle I worked on. I had my eyes open quick and the information I found convinced me to pursue other avenues. You need a special meter for judging depth. Its easy to distort the view of the windshield. Its very messy and requires a lot of taping off etc...

Re: scratch removal
Great post Candyman. I too have been actively doing scratch removal, we indeed have been involved in this since the early days, today I am focussing more on the WSR part of our business (here in EU). If anybody has any questions re the distortion-free-scratch-removal.... please feel free to PM me.

Thanks, any experience with dry systems like glassrenue or scratchpro? They both advertise distortion free , and looking at the videos on there sites, looks easy and fast.

Re: scratch removal
Unfortunately, scratch removal may look easy and fast but believe me after providing many scratch repairs, that's not always the case. Without the proper training you'll be in trouble fast. The videos are not enough to train you in this field of service.vintage wrote:Thanks, any experience with dry systems like glassrenue or scratchpro? Re: scratch removal
I understand that training and experiance are needed, is training given just by the kit makers, or does an independnt company give training?

Re: scratch removal
My experience is similar to Candyman. I have a GlasWeld kit and have done several jobs, but the return on investment leaves a lot to be desired. Repairing wiper scratches on windshields is NOT where the money is and it will break your back if they are very bad because of the time involved and the awkward angle. Using a slurry system makes a mess. Dry systems on windshield glass are also not very practical either. To avoid distortion, the general technique is to use progressive grits in an ever widening swatch to avoid or minimize distortion. The money is in architectural glass in buildings and high end homes. There are still limitations to any of these systems depending on where the scratch is, how deep and wide, the type of glass, and replacement cost versus repair cost.
