I worked for several years in sub zero Vermont I tried to stay away from the defrost it puts too much direct heat on the glass. My preffered methos was to put a big towel on the glass and turn on the heat the towel will keep in the heat and warm the glass. This way caused much less stess on the break. The other option if its just cold not sub zero is just repair t the way it is its not ideal but with care repairs can be made on hot or cold glass. Head pressure is a killer in both cold and hot repairs be careful :) Myself I moved away from the cold I found the cold to be much harder on the tech than the repair

Sudden change in temperature and uneven heating and cause damage. I dont know how the electric blanket works. I work around the cars heater and it serves the purpose. Let me also know what the electric blanket does if you use it. I am curious.

I take it that you lot understand the physics behind why the heater can make the damage run, if not have a little think about bi-metal springs as a clue.
