Getting started: Invoices

Post by LWR »

Still working on getting everything in order before officially start working. I suffer from paralysis of analysis in a major way. :)

I'm trying to decide what the best option for invoices should be. Ive researched the forums and found that some like to go with the carbon copy style. Some like to go paperless and email the invoice to the customer (how would you get the signature for disclaimer). Some use a mobile laptop and portable printer and can print an invoice on the spot if needed.

I also dont know what I'm going to do as far as accounting either. Ive read that quickbooks is the way to go and QB also can be used to print an invoice to hand to client if needed. I dont see the point in having carbon copy style invoices and then having to enter data from paper invoices into accounting software at the end of the day although I am more old school and like the idea of carbon copy invoices because I'm computer illiterate lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are just starting out implement the QB program. Learn as you go. For the moment you can pick up a reciept book at Staples with serial numbers. This works fine for HLR but not for insurance companies for WSR Korey at delta has a sample of an Invoice with the disclaimer. You can PM me and I will send you a sample by fax. Korey can do it over the internet. You can modify it and include your business and addtional info that the Insurance companies will need. Information such as your Tax ID,, Invoice Number ( you create ), Veh VIN #, Description block of break, Customers signature etc... . Read the post of some of the others that are using Iphones & Ipads to scan and transmit customer information and signatures. These post also include info on apps that you can use for your business. Figure out what is best for you and how much you are will to spend up front. Have a great 4th. Candyman

I do have an invoice from Korey that I have modified and included my info and it looks great! Saved me a tremendous amount of time. I read about people using apps to scan the invoice for their records, preventing the need for carbon copies. Just seems like alot of steps to do it that way. Knowing myself I would probably hand the invoice to the client forgetting to scan it. My old man owns a large construction company and he recommended QB so I guess its time to look into it.

Thanks for the feedback candyman.

It is a blessing to have a company like Delta Kits and a forum like this where folks are willing to help out. Without this forum I would not be as far along as I currently am in the process of getting my first business started. Happy 4th!!!
