Seems lately that Coister has everybody fired up on crack repair. \:D/

I assume if you can pass it through insurance you'll only get normal chip repair rates.... but what do you do with the cash customer with no insurance? Do you use any special sales pitch or calculated formula to size up the customer with this repair?

Reason I ask is because in my area when I tried doing long crack repair people would look at me like this  when I told them minimum charge was $45. Personally I thought a fair charge would be around $60. Maybe it's just my sales approach that needs adjustment to get that higher rate. Any suggestions or comments?

Well as for me having everyone fired up on crack repair I don't like to do long crack repair. I can do it, and I am good at it, I just don't like to do it. I only use the expander trick on the outside when the crack is between 2 to 4 inches.

I charge dealers min of $55.00 and everyone else is $75.00 and up. Cracks take a long time to do right and you can't make that much money at them if you are just sitting there not doing anything else. I only like to do cracks if I have other cars to do while I am waiting. That is why I like doing them at dealers. Hey most of the time they say "you can fix that?". I guess there old glass guy could not. Makes me feel needed.

I Love Crack Repairs! They have become a great nitch for me an awesome selling too.

When I look at a crack repair for pricing a lot of it is determined on an estimated cost of a new windshield. If you have an $800.00 windshield you would be surprised what someone would be willing to pay for a crack repair. I always tell the customer if there not happy with it it

You bet, StarQuest.

A fair price is definitely $60 and a fairer price is more like $75 depending on the replacement cost. Afterall, $60 is the price of a simpler repair.

At least you can negotiate at the higher quoted prices depending on the prospect and the extent of damage. You certainly don't want to start negotiating at $45 for sure.

Seems to me, the uninsured have more to lose out-of-pocket if the windshield needs to be replaced.

On the other hand, many of them will wait until replacement is absolutely necessary before doing anything.

But, you don't stand much of a chance with the latter, anyway.

Thanks Desertstars and others for your input.

Much like Coister I don't push the crack repair all that much. Especially when they get into the 6" and over in length. Just seems like it takes too long. I guess I'm not very good at sitting in one spot for that duration unless I have other hits to fix. That probably also explains why I could never set up a tent waiting for work to come to me. I know it works well for some but personally it would drive me nuts. ](*,) Well on second thought, maybe I'd make a few exceptions...like having a tent setup outside Hugh Hefner's playboy mansion. \:D/ Wonder what you could get for crack repair their  Can't believe I just said that! Guess spring is finally here

Anyway...I know now I'll have to work at getting better pricing for these repairs in my area. If you guys get your price, no reason I can't!

Hope everybody enjoys their weekend

You have it starquest.

Just don't forget what you have.

This business is simple: either go and get it or wait for it to come to you.

Our business is nothing like trying to sell something to someone who doesn't recognize a need or trying to sell an intangible to a moron.

The need is obvious and it sure as hell isn't intangible, is it?

Spend oodles on advertising or ask for a simple yes or no from anyone who has damage.

The need for our business is right in front of our eyes everyday as well as the prospect.

It's as simple as that.

Save the sales pitch unless you are dealing with fleet managers or professionals.

Just ask.

Yes or no?

But ask.

Hello everyone- Speaking of crack repair- I did one the other day (altough I don't care to do them either) that was probably about 8 inches long coming from the passenger side molding and was running to the middle as the lady was driving to work. I got there and it was sitting in the direct sun so it was hot and just barely rested my hand on the windshield and it ran more.. I drilled and tried to pop it to make a stopping point and it ran again, it took three times of doing this to finally get it to stop into the bullseye type thing I created. I figured I would give it one more try and then it's time for a new one. I'm fairly new to this and that's masybe why I don't care to do cracks especially that long by the time it quit running(12- 14"). It is an insurance job and am not sure how to bill on a long crack. The repair looked good and haven't heard anything about it continuing to run. I hope I did o.k.... It was a challenge and a learning experience!!! Happy repairing to all, Karen
