Getting started in small town Idaho

Every one of the posts I have seen about w/s repair states the damage will never be totally gone and you will always see some of the damage. How do you sell a crack repair if the crack is still there? Can you sell your customer the fact that the crack is still there but its stronger than it was before? How do you know it's stronger than it was before you repaired it? How do you know where the crack has stopped and if you have filled it to the end of the crack? Where do you draw the line and say replace it? Some of the posts on this board are close to being boarderline to fraud about repairing w/shields. W/shield repair has it's place in the automotive repair business but sometimes it looks like it is just another way to make a buck.

Crack repair?????????

Post by glassdoctor »

Look, man... take that somewhere else. There isn't fraud here bro.

There are some hacks is this business that don't do good work and don't care.. just like every other business in existence. They don't count as far as I'm concerned... they don't represent our trade.

If you don't like a repair, you don't pay. If the repair fails at any point, you get a refund. The vast majority of wsr techs have such policies.

The fact is the glass is broke, cracked, whatever... and it's a repair, it's not brand new glass and it's not 100% invisible or literally gone. What you "hear" is concerning being realistic and not over-hyping what w/s repair does. Consumers don't usually know anything about wsr and a few tend to think that the repaired break will be completely gone, invisible, perfect.

The fact is that the break will always be improved dramaticly, usually difficult to spot, and sometimes they are nearly invisible. I have had customers forget exactly where is was and they could not even find it later. Big deal... I could still find it for them and point it out... it's still there. Are you going to sue me for fraud?

Cracks are a bit different, and opinions vary within the industry. The bottom line is it's the customer's choice whether they choose to repair a crack and get 90% or whatever improvement and not replace it. If they are happy with the repair, great. If they aren't thrilled or it later spreads, like i said, money back. What more do you want?

Oh, and the chip repair absolutely does work, even if you're picky and can still see whatever scar is left.

I have a huge scar on the back of my left thigh, but it's better than having the doctor cut my leg off.

I hope I don't sound too irritated... but what am I supposed to say? Yeah, ya got me.... I'm really defrauding people of their money the past 12 years.

To answer your questions:
1) We can sell a crack repair because the repair will provide structural integrity to a piece of glass that would otherwise split in half. It is bonded together through the insertion of a bonding agent (resin) into the crack that is then u.v. cured.
2) I know it is stronger than when I repaired it because if I apply pressure to the crack it will not run or get longer. I am confident enough in the strength of such repairs that I guarantee them for the life of the vehicle.
3) I know I have filled to the end of the crack because I can visibly see the resin fill the crack to the end.
4) Calling it quits is usually taken on a case-by-case basis. With my most important factors being safety to the driver (will not impair their vision), and the customers expectations as to the esthetics of the repair.
There is no snake oil here. Windshield repair is not a rip off. I don't know what your particular point of view is to this industry and I won't venture a guess here. You are way off base in your accusations.

Hello Lee ...  You have to be careful using such words as "FRAUD" on this forum. I assume that you're just a shoot from the hip type of guy who can type fast. :D :D :D Most of the guys and gals here live and breathe WSR. They are here to better themselves and help others succeed in this trade. They are committed to giving their customer the best quality repair that they can and are always open to any ideas that may help them improve in providing this service. To be blunt... anyone with decent equiptment and very little training can make a "sellable" repair. This is just like going to the dentist and asking him if he can save a tooth that has a cavity. After he fills it- IT WON"T LOOK LIKE NEW. The only difference is HE won't give you any guarantees. As far as fixing cracks, you are right, they don't completely disappear... nor do bullseyes, stars ,or any other break. Anyone who misleads a customer with statements like "I can make it like new again" before the repair is probably guilty of what you mentioned. WELCOME TO THE FORUM LEE :D :D Theres a great bunch of people here... (just try to refrain from using the " F " word )   Bob

Lee
I would be very careful in the use of your words. The guys and ladies who use this forum are some of the most honest, helpful and decent people that I have ever come across. I seriously question your intelligence if you consider you've stumbled across a gang of fraudsters. This is a friendly helpful forum full of people not looking for arguments or getting argumentative. Read and digest the posts and reassess your opinion. If you are trying to get a reaction, you will get one, big time. I respectfully suggest you either retract your suggestion as you have really offended a lot of people here. [-X

Lee, these people here are the best in the industry. They care about what they do and foremost the customer. I would suggest some reading on this forum before you make a post like that, you could have saved your tail from getting set on fire.

I'll second that motion Jeff,

If you keep scratching at a mosquito bite it will only get worse!

Lets get back to all the positives that makes this forum great
