Dave M,

While I'm not stuck with extremely cold climes, I do have a 2 car garage that has been setup to display all of my tools (very neatly) and I even have a couch, TV, refrigerater and coffee pot in the garage.

Rather than picking up customers' vehicles, I offer a discount if they meet me at my home (certainly saves my diesel;). If it is cold out, chances are that their windshield has warmed up some from their heater/defroster by the time they arrive and I can pretty much get right to the repair.

My initial concerns for security (given that Memphis has such a high crime rate) have been alleviated as my garage has a really nice NRA banner, I have two large Dobermans in the house and a nice alarm system;)

Although cold weather is not a concern in my area, I heartily endorse DaveC's 7:17 AM post.

I would avoid under any circumstances taking possession of a customer's vehicle for many reasons, most of which relate to liability.
