Tents? Why? I guess I just don't get it. I see the roadside repair dude with his tent set-up and his "FREE" Windshield repair signs and I think, this is the the kind of traveling roadshow image that makes people think CHEAP! Fruits and vegetables perhaps....windshield repair, I don't think so!

Cracked up if you took a second to look at the pics of tents that are linked to in this thread you will see some very professional setups. Take the time to investigate the topic you are speaking on before you start insulting the professionals who have been of help to many others on this forum.

I'm only speaking from my personal observation of what I see in my area. Professionals who are operating a successful WS Repair business usually don't have time to sit under a tent on the side of the road...they are too busy with their solid schedule of repairs.

This is the reason I ask that you check out the subject you are speaking on before making disparaging remarks. I can't speak to what you see in your area. For one thing I'm not even aware of what area you are in. Several of the folks who have posted in this thread that they have tents I am sure would be considered successful by most standards.

I agree mafsu , there are some very professional tent set-ups from members of this forum -not to mention the man who sets the standard that we all envy. Maybe its time to americanize his concepts with a big flashing neon FREE FREE FREE sign ..............I think I'll call it " Shock and Awe -ptic-Clear" Guess I'm getting tired- going to bed ......Bob

I have personally worked the tent idea quite awhile ago. I only lasted a few days. I am one of those people that can't sit still for long periods.

I have great respect for those of you that are able to do it. And from many of the professional setups I've seen, I'd have to say that alot of creative thought has gone into these setups.

For those that don't mind being in a location all day, the profits are there. For anyone new thinking about this, just keep in mind...that it may take a little time to start reaping the rewards. Just be persistent.

I talked to a repair tech in Louisiana that has a tent location and he is making a very nice living, but his advice was: Give it time and be consistent (be there every day...not a day here and a day there).

All of the nice pictures of the many different setups should give someone more than enough ideas to come up with a creative tent setup of their own.

It is a mistake to paint all tent setups with the same broad brush. Each person doing this type of business has their own agenda. I have been setting up every Saturday at a local store in the valley where I live, with banners in prominant places, as well as signns on the roadway in both directions. The exposure keeps me in front of the local residents. Often they will pull up and tell me they are glad I am there, as they had been intending to call, but kept forgetting. They dont always have time on Sat for the repair, so we schedule an appointment, and that gives me a jump start on the week ahead. Other people stop out of curiosity, because they want to know what windshield repair is (its surprising how many people still dont know that rock chips can be repaired). For me, its not boring or a waste of time to be there, and I dont think it looks unprofessional or "cheapens my image" in the least. My signs and banners are well made, and there is certainly nothing tacky about our Minnie-Winnie. The store owner is very happy to have me there too, since people spend time (& hopefully, money too) in the store and in the antique mall that she also owns.
