Glass treatment

Just wondered if anybody tried upselling glass treatment as a add on?

If so, any suggestions as to what product to use and charges?

Are you are talking about Rain-X, or similar type products? I personally dont want anything to do with that stuff... I particularly wont sell my clients something that could render their windshield difficult to repair if they should need me again. (Just my opinion). But I do thing the anti-fog products for the inside of the windshield is a good thing.

Definetly not Rain-X Gold Star [-X Windshield techs worst enemy That's all I've been seeing around here lately. Rain-X windshield solution at the every local Auto Zone, KMart and Murray's.

Actually...... I'm just looking for a high quality non retail auto glass treatment product. Someting that works, is proven and can be used to upsell. I'm sure there out their! Thought some of you might already have found them and been able share some additional info. Thanks!

I have some stuff we use on copier glass that works very good. Used it on my van glass in december and still going strong, let me know if interested and i can send you a sample if I can find a suitable container to mail it in.

Here is what you are looking for.

Not your average glass treatment. Can be purchased from your local PPG warehouse. Pricing is not cheap but can be turned around for a descent profit. Comes with individual treatments including towels to prep the glass.
We also tested this product from CR Laurence:

Although this product did work very good, it was not quite what we were looking for.

Keep in mind that you MUST make sure the customer is aware that this treatment is effective for anywhere from 3-6 months (possible to be slightly longer) DEPENDING ON THE CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO!!! Amount driven? Garage kept? Heavy acid rain area?
If you do not do this, I can promise you the customer will be back at your door wanting a refund!!!!! Whatever any salesman tells you about the longevity, it IS an average of 3-6 months. (rain-x has a TRUE longevity of 3-4 weeks average)
When we were testing and evaluating the feasibility of selling it, we decided unanimously that it was NOT a favorable addition. That was for us, your business plan may be quite different than ours. We do sales in double figure millions and this was not of benefit to us. Do the numbers and see what you come up with as it might be a very successful addition for you.

Thanks for the info and links. I guess the only way to find out how good these products are is to buy one and test it out myself.

I wasn't looking to make lots of money by upselling glass treatment. Actually, I'm more interested in building a return customer base by offering something much better than Rain-X to enhance drivers vision. This would also include a discounted or free re-application every 4-6 months. Seems like a good way to stay in touch with customers and hopefully get some additional referrals down the road. I think to many times we accomplish a great repair for our customers only to be forgot a week later. By adding a quality glass treatment to our service...it seems more likely that whenever they drive through a rainstorm with clear vision they might remember us more often.

Like you said though, the quality of the product needs to be honestly presented to the customer or things could backfire.

Could be a waste of time and money but I'm willing to give it a shot.
