Trouble with Starbreaks
Hi
Im having a problem with starbreaks as i am new to windscreen repairs i wondered if this was normal. Bulleyes are not a problem but if there is a crack in the bulleye it will not fill. These cracks are only 3 cm at the longest and quite small.
I have drilled into the screen. just wondered if I was drilling deep enough and how do you know how far to drill ?
many Thanx

Trouble with Starbreaks
Glazman,
A star break (star) is different from what your describing. Are you trying to describe a combo where the cracks extend outside the bullseye? Or a bullseye with little cracks inside the hit?
A little more information on this repair will help.

Re: trucks
hi
thanx for your response today today I encountered a bullseye with little tiny cracks inside it the bulleyes filled fine but the small craks within didnt. There was also 2 small cracks extending out of it which the resin didnt make any impression on.
The 2nd 1 was more of a impact mark with small cracks extending from it. 1 of the cracks didnt look as if it was actually coming out of the impact mark .There was a small distance between the mark & the crack which was probably only about 2 1/2 cm in length.
Thanx

Glazman,
Going back to your first repair on the bullseye....can you describe what steps you took to fill this one? Like step 1, step 2, step 3....and so on. It really helps us to help you figure out what's going on.
My first question to ask is are you sure someone didn't already try to fill it? Sometimes you'll run into one of these that look like a new hit but really aren't. After you do enough repairs they're easy to identify by looking at the pit. If they had chances are you'll have a hard time filling these legs because their already closed off to accept new resin. In that case your S.O.L.
As to the 2nd hit, did you use a probe to help open these legs. I personally use a probe on 90% of stars just to speed up the process. Once again by writing back and describing each separate step you took will give us a chance to be more helpful with advice.
Hang in there.....it only gets better with lots of practice.

Hi I did a combo today that the legs outside the bull filled no problem and the bull filled good but the cracks inside the bull did not fill very well.1st i cleaned the pit out then i put injector on the break and cycled it a couple times flexing the legs both from inside and out.being a newbie i appreciate the help that this forum provides.every one helps out with alot of good info thanx for the help
Welcome to colonel and glazman!
Did either of your try "popping" the break before you tried to fill it? This where you put a ?scribe? (I think that is what it is called... a drill bit will work also in pinch) in the drill hole (very straight) and tap on it lightly with your probe. This pops a little pocket of air in the break which can open up all the legs.
And like StarQuest I use my probe to flex the legs on alot of breaks.
Good luck!

I do that too Julie. I have an awl I purchased from the hardware I will insert thru the injector with a few drops of resin in the break. Just apply pressure and watch the resin flow!!! Be carefull not to push to hard!! Then just cycle (pressure and vacuum) as usual. I sometimes repete the process if the legs won't fill completely. Scott
