I am in the process of practicing wsr to develop my skills. I purchased a Delta double bridge repair system. I use a bullseye maker tool that I purchase from Delta and purchased a windshield to practice on. The problem that I am having is that when I use the tool I get a star combo type condition, the star measured approximately 2 to 3 inches across. I do approximately 3 pressure/vacuum cycles. When under pressure I apply thumb pressure on the top knob depressing the gap approximately 50%. The first pressure cycle is 5 min, the second is 2 mins and the third is for 1 minute. The results are that when the repair is complete I am left with a small black pocket (s) inside the main break area. I imagine these to be areas where the resin did not reach which is hard to understand since this area is under the injector. The repairs are clearly overall an improvement of 80% at least. If I could get rid of the black pocket (s) then I feel the repair would be acceptable.

I would appreciate any input anyone has to this condition. :?

Sorry I'm not answering your question, I'm a newbie myself and am in the process of getting my 1st kit and will be needing a practice windshield. I was curious about your comment on purchasing a practice WS. I've heard that you can get a cracked windshield for free from most WS replacement shops. Where did you buy your WS and how much did you pay for it?

The black spot is air(normally shows as black or silver). Increase your vacuum time, and flex the glass to move the air. Always cure under pressure to reduce the black spot that may be left.
2-3" diameter breaks are way too large for you to be attempting this early in your business. The NWRA uses a quarter to cover repairable damage(15/16") I think. 2-3" breaks are 4-9 times larger on average- much more resin and time involved, plus the inevitable blemish is that much larger.
Visit any local glass shop dumpster after closing, and your practice glass is free. Return to them when finished practicing!
Visit your local Snap-On truck and buy a Blue Point center punch for around $15. Sized like a ball point pen, and is your new scribe and break maker.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum, first thing to do here is use the search button for star breaks. You will find a few hours of reading on the subject, go try the methods presented to you and then see what your work looks like. We are willing to help but you have allot of work to do first.

I forgot to mention all new members should use the search feature, and actually read ALL previous posts- many questions would be eliminated, thus speeding up your learning curve.

ACT 1,

There are many things that could cause the situation you're describing. It's much easier to diagnose the problem by telephone, since we can ask you questions, figure out exactly what's going on, and let you know the things you may want to do differently.

In short, call for tech support! :)
