How do most techs find WSR?

It seems like over the years people have gotten into WSR by different means. Some saw a tech in action and then looked into it on the net like myself. I think this is a minority though. In '88 I saw it done by a mobile tech at a used car dealer I worked at but I didn't think much of it. Chips seemed too few and far between to make a biz out of it. I didn't see it done retail until 2001. Would I be wrong to assume that most people found it through the auto glass replacement biz or the used car dealer circuit and related trade magazines?
Also, what year did insurance companies start paying for chips rather than just replacements?
