Plastic and vynil repairs should be ok forever fabric repairs normaly look good until someone sits on it or picks at the fibre. I make more money from stitching seats and it lasts a lot longer just a little practise with a needle and thread you can buy a whole selection of coloured threads for only a pound or two over here try walmart or some dollar store.
33,000 + screen repairs over 18 years and still learning.

I've been in vinyl repair since 1982 and I just had to comment here.
screenman is correct about the fabric repair issue and while some dealers like to fool their customers most do not, (reputation)!!

Scott Tyner is also correct when it comes to selection of products and method of repair(there's more than one way to skin a cat). As for the longevity issue, some repairmen don't care how long their repairs last, they just want looks.(UNSCREWPULESS,SHODDY,....etc) A good vinyl repair is stronger than the surrounding material just as any weld should be!! Appearence is also an issue and a good tech will offer both looks and longevity.

If you are serious about vinyl repair check around the local lots and ask who they use. There should be a couple being used regularly. This is a good starting place. From there you can ask the tech's if they might be interested in letting you ride along for a day or two. If you get lucky you will find that they are open to this. (When I began in the biz tech's guarded their secret's closely) You can get alot of info from them if they are open. When I got started I payed 100.$ an hour for training. It was to much but I was more stubborn then. The market is not limited to cars either. You can get a small kit for a decent price just be carefull what you buy,(some products perform better than others). Sell to resteraunts, motels, etc... Thats a good training ground. I know a couple of tech's who will train you for free if you like, fire me a pm if you want to discuss it further....... Scott :)

I am currently selling windshield wipers and windshield was in addition to my "Tent" Repair business. You can find brand name suppliers that will sell to you at wholesale. You sell at a per pair price, putting around $8.00 mark-up on a pair for m'up and installation labor. You can get windshield wash for about 69 cents a gallon at a wholesale supplier. Sell it for $1.99. Doesnt seem like much profit in one sale - but who can't use an extra 3-500 dollars a month? Takes about 3 minutes to install the wipers and fill the wash fluid.
