Does anyone have any tips or tricks about glass polishing? We just purchased the materials, and tried it out, but we havent seen any difference in appearance of scratches.

Glass Polishing ?

Hi glassgurl,

Could you describe what materials or kit you purchased and a little more about the scratches your attempting to remove? I'm sure we can help you with some additional information about scratch removal.

A question for ACT users

Hi Glassgurl, I too have a scratch removal or glass polishing kit that I purchased while in school at Glass Mechanix. I quickly learned that you will be limited to what you can actually accomplish as far as "scratch removal" is concerned. If you can feel the scratch with your finger nail, it is probably to far gone! There is a big difference between glass polishing and glass grinding. In windshields you have to be careful as to the amount of glass that you actually remove. If you attempt to cut the glass down in an attempt to remove a deep scratch, you will alter the optics of the glass thus making matters worse than they were before you started. An ordinary scuff made by a wiper blade will take anywhere from 45 minutes to up to two hours to remove using glass compound/polish, water, and your power glass buffing machine. It can be done, but time and patience is required. Good Luck

Thanks for the reply`s, but I have decided that scratch removal is not the thing for me, it`s too time consuming, and I just don`t have the patience :P

Glassgurl, You probably made a wise decision. You will make more money staying with windshield repairs and it is not nearly as messy either

I use Glas-Weld's system. I have never had glass become distorted. Have removed deep gouges and scratches. It does take some time but it is a service that keeps out competitors. Most of the time it is my Sat. morning work. Have been able to save the dealers a lot of money and they are most appreciative.
