I have been checking out the manufacturers kits and got to see the glassmechanics kit . are any techs using this kit? If you are do you you like it. I was not impressed by the looks of the kit.I AM NOT MEANING TO OFFEND ANYONE WHO OWNS ONE. Its just that some of the components of the kit are made of plexi glass. the pieces are not very pleasant or professional looking. That was just my observation on the quest to find the best equipment for my business.

thanks all!! CHPRFIXR

"GLASSMECHANICS" KIT. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!!

Hey Chipfxr... Do yourself a favor and call Jeff at Delta, I recently saw the Delta set up at a trade expo in Florida, Im not joking pal, Save yourself some Real Money and buy a decent kit at the same time... I was Impressed, Quality, Good looking and simple to use. I think it was $850 for a two device kit... Bet thats less money than G.M. Im not knocking GM's kit, Ive never tried it, but I like you thought it looked cheap... Trust your gut instinct...

Chipfxr,

Welcome to one of the most important steps of getting started in windshield repair. I suggest as you are doing, continue to research and then do more research. Try to decide what you can afford now and match it to the company who can provide you with the best customer service as well as high quality tooling and expendables (Resins). There are alot of high quality tooling manufacturers out there and I believe most tooling can accomplish good repairs. But, how user friendly is it is another story. Remember, the tooling is only as good as the technician using it.

I personally own a DELTA KIT and it is very high quality as well as there resins and customer service. I was fortunate enough to be able to see some of the leading manufacturers under one roof at an expo. It gave me a chance to physically use all of there tooling, see how they presented themselves and hear what other technicians were saying about there brand of tooling already. All these things combined helped me make my decision. Quality was good in most brands I looked at but the other areas were laking. DELTA KITS was very strong in all areas.

So Chipfxr, In the end it will be a personal prefference based on your wants compared to your needs as well as your financial limitations. I am quite sure DELTA KITS will be able to meet and exceed your wants and needs. They did mine.

Good Luck to you.

Pay it foward,

Chipfxr.... I didnt know any WSR supplier was against long crack repair... I hear there is good money in fixing long cracks, thats why most guys will do them, "NOT KNOCKING YOU GUYS"... after the repair I understand its still very visable... I personally wouldnt feel comfortable charging for something like that, and in this sue happy world I just wouldnt want to accept the liabilty... Im my area a 12 inch crack go's for $120 why wouldnt I just get it replaced??? Safety is the Major Issue here...and Yes I do understand the repair is VERY strong... Id be interested to know how many guys do one or more cracks per week/day etc....Thanks guys.

chprfixr,

First, I consider anything over 6 inches a long crack. Off the top of my head the longest crack repair I have done to date is 8 inches and the majority are under 6 inches (The DELTA KIT performed just fine). This is not because I would not do longer cracks, but the majority of the time most people have procrastinated and the damage is beyond my set limit for a repair which is 12 inches. I own one kit and it is a DELTA KIT.

I suggest you contact DELTA KITS to clear up any confusion you have. Maybe your definition of a long crack repair is different than theirs. I have no doubt that there are other tooling manufacturers that have quality products capable of producing quality results. I also have no doubt that a large majority of these potential long crack customers will not be fully satisfied with the result. This is not necessarily from the tooling or the resins or even the tech, but more from the customers waiting to repair it. Time and exposure to the elements dramatically reduce appearance. It will never disappear and if I am not happy with it they sure won't be. I also won't have my name associated with poor results.

I guess you have to try to evaluate honestly the amount of long crack repairs you think you will get vs. the amount of typical rock chip repairs you will get. Then decide which tooling supplier can best meet your true needs all around for the budget you have.

What ever you decide on DELTA or ABC brand, the tooling is only as good as the technician performing the repair.

Good luck in this very frustrating, but very important decision.
