Does any know anything of Glass Technology? I am curious about their machine based systems. It looks like it creates a tremendous vacuum.

Just curious as to everyone's thoughts as to the pros and cons of this one.

Thanks Again!

How Much Resin Do I Use

Post by mafsu »

I don't use Gt's system. I do use their resins and they are a good company. That being said I have read posts before stating that you are probably better off (money wise) using one of their mechanical systems. The opinions seem to be that while the machine-based system may be impressive to some customers (most retail customers will be just about as curious about a standard bridge and injector setup) it does not produce superior repairs; therefore it's not worth the expense. Other factors to consider are that if you are working on a fleet of vehicles (car rental, DOT, etc..) that thing would be a bear to lug around.

I agree, spend the money on a deluxe manual kit and training, no need to overcomplicate things.

Resins sold on ebay

I also use their resins but a Delta injector . Their resins are the best I have found . and the delta injector works terrific. If you can I would try to go to a training seminar there are tricks that you are not told on the training video,or manual

I've been using Glass Technology's VP 5000 machine and resins for 11 years with great results. Just started using GT's new PRISM injector which suspends the resin away from the glass while the air is being removed.
I work for dealerships, rental agencies, fleets and retail. You get used to "lugging" it around!

Hi Dave,

Have you found much difference using the new PRISM injector?, compared to their older version? Also how much time does GT systems take to complete a standard chip repair on the average?

I am new to the business, and it seems to take me much longer than the advertised time of 15-20 min. I am hoping that my time improves as my experience grows :)

I currently use the Delta system, and will probably go to their "on the road training" when they come to Houston in October.

Thanking you in advance,
Sally

Bill,
I received the GT package, prior to going with Delta. I was very impressed with the literature, but the systems are kinda pricey :(

The Eliminator was $3995.00, (Computerized Repair System)

The Maxim (Machine based Repair System) was $2495.00, and the 20/20 was $1195.00.

I almost went with the Eliminator, but upon reading all the posts here recommending Delta, and also indicating that doing WSR is not as difficult as a newbie would think, so the KISS approach with the Delta system seemed more cost effective, which left me more money for marketing, business cards, invoices etc.

Rory at Glass Technology was very helpful and informative, and I have great respect for their Company, and do use their crack resin for cracks only, while using the Magnabond, and Premium Resin from Delta for chips with great success. :D

Sallu,

I still take about.....it depends on what type of break you are repairing, average 20 minutes. Some maybe only 15 minutes while others can take 45 minutes.
The PRISM works really well! Like any new piece of equipment it does take getting use too. Instead of 3-5 drops of resin per repair I now use 8-10. A seperate chamber needs to be 1/2 filled prior to injection. But you know what? That little 1/2 ounce bottle of resin never seems to get empty. I use 3 different viscosities of resin.

The Maxim from GT is the best for WSR. If you're a seasoned tech doing 40+ repairs a week, you'd benefit greatly from the Maxim's air pump doing all the work for you as opposed to hand-pumps and other manual methods. It's more sophisticated, giving your customers a professional impression of your service and sets you apart from what they've seen before. Forget about the Eliminator though, it's just a bad idea in design; same machine underneath but with hand-holding help from the "computer."
