My girlfriend does gel nails. The gel is cured by UV light. The bulbs she uses are these 6" dual tube 9watt bulbs. The other day at Canadian Tire (a harware chain here in Canada) they have florecent work lights on sale for $14 and guess what? Same bulb socket as her UV bulbs! So I buy a unit pop out the bulb and put in one of the UV bulbs. GREAT but.... The plastic clear tube of the light blocks the UV light! LOL!! O well! I did try it with out the tube and the 9Watt bulb cured it FAST! Much faster than my 12V delta lamp. I also thought since the light is bathed around the injector it would help in preasure cures. I guess I'll have to cut a opening in the plastic tube or try and find some plastic that dosn't block the UV. Any ideas on what type of plastic it need to be? For a $20 dollar investment I'll have a good strong lamp.

Just cut out a big opening in the tube...

The bulb is probably the same as used in all the "windshield repair" lights of that type. Phillips makes the dual tube 9w bulbs I have seen. Aquarium UV filters sometimes use this bulb also.

Something to keep in mind when playing with this stuff is that some bulbs and fixtures are not compatible. I tried a bulb in a different light once and it didn't work right, even though the bulbs were same type, etc...

Funny that you mention the UV Cured Nail Gels.

Since getting my WSR Kit, my wife now only uses UV polish for her nails and cures with my Delta light (only takes about 20-30 seconds per hand!)

Heck, as an add-on service to WSR, why not cruise around with a few different colors of polish and get a buffing wheel for the Dremmel and do manicures;)!

WOW Did'nt know they had uv light in a nail salon but after reading this post I remember there is a table with the ladies sitting there with hands under the light drying the polish!! Wonder if they have clear polish ??? AND maybe it ??? Any lady WSR out there that has any clear nail polish???

Yes, they have clear UV cureable polish!

Call me a weenie, but at least once every two weeks, I show up at the local spa/salon and have a spa pedicure and manicure.

Reference to curing lights. Walmarts has a bulb,12 inch, 8watts, 115 volt,
#f8t5blb/cd, that is a black light. I talked to General Electric maker of the bulb, and they said this light works at 365 nanometers. Also I am in middle Tennesse, and would like to get some hands on training if possible.

That bulb will cure resin. If you can get you hands on one that ends in bl instead of blb it will work a lot better. A wholesaler should be able to get one.

The bulbs that you are referring to are ment to work with 110v power source right? They won't work with my 12v mobile battery system from Delta, am I understanding it correctly?

The "Walmart" lights are GE 110V undercabinet style fixtures. So they don't work with a 12V battery, no.

They do work quite well if you want a huge light, like if you do cracks?

I have had a 35W 24" (big tube) light and an 15W? 18" light. Both worked ok.
