I think the article was right this is a sales job pure and simple. if you cant sell or self motivate to keep working you will fail you can have the best fishing gear in the world but if you dont go to the water you wont catch anything

Burnman the bad weather is what sells our work best im an hour from Montreal we got every damn weather junk you can dream of again its the ability to sell and maintain a client base you cant just buy a kit and go sit by the road and expect the money to roll in

I am presently fixing up a shop for windshield repair and paintless dent repair because market research is suggesting that the 55 and up crowd want to go to a professional setting to get a repair done. not a fly by night service.

I was wondering how you operate when its cold. I have not actually done a repair yet but from what I've read it is complicated to do when it's below freezing.

I would wager to disagree on this with you. Again, I'm not in the business yet but I would think that people looking for this type of service would be more appreciative of service at their home or office, waiting in their living room rather than that little waiting room with the crap coffee at the WR shop.

I just read the article for myself. The success of any business opportunity out there depends on the individual effort of the person investing in it. I purchased a kit, took the training offered by Delta Kits in October, and went mobile later that month. I had reasonable success as a mobile repair service, and also became an independent contractor for a local glass company and do all of their repair jobs. I leased a shop in February of this year, and have to say that this was the best move I could have made. I have more than doubled my business, and have several people just stop by to ask about windshield repair that normally would have not known the service existed. I think that actually having a fixed location adds credibility to the business. I still offer mobile service, but I have noticed that most people are willing to set an appointment and just bring their vehicle to the shop.

I agree with tullioz...a base to work out of just makes you appear more professional and credible and that is why I am making the investment.

I just read the article. Yes, we are in sales. (Who isn't?)

Quote from the article...
The message here is that any pre-packaged BizOpp that sells in the $500 to $10,000 range is typically worthless and a complete waste of your time and money.
Well I spent $500 dollars on my first kit 12 years ago - and i'm still part time (by choice).

Here are just a few things that I have done with the extra money I made that the article would otherwise tell me is a waste of my time...

-Built a garage / shop
-Paid for lots of home and yard improvements over the years.
-Paid for several summer vacations
-Paid for school clothes and school supplies for my daughter for several years
-Paid to have a barn built on my property
-Paid for numerous Chistmas presents and birthday and aniversary presents every year.
-Paid my taxes on my house year after year
-Paid for lots of dinners out with my wife
-Paid for groceries when things were a little tight
-Bought stock (wish it was google)
-Put money in savings
-Put cash in my wallet
-etc, etc etc and etc.

... you get the picture. Windshield repair was a $500 business in a box 12 years ago and although I choose to keep it part-time, I love it.

Some pencil dick author couldn't make me think twice about this business.
I love this business. Just like all you guys (and gals) love it too.

:)

The thing that would scare me away from opening a store is the additional overhead, especially starting out. For most glass places, the WR business is just an add on and for me it would be my only thing to start. If you are paying a grand or so for a store you would need a lot of repairs to just break even.

Burnman...Your right about the overhead however I plan on doing some p.d.r. as well as rustproofing/oil spraying to help fill in the blanks and see which area takes off and ride the wave.
