Practice Glass
Re: Practice Glass
I have spoken with 15 autoglass places and NOBODY would even give me the time of day...So I went the salvage yard way and they all cry "insurance issues" as a reason for not letting me practice in their yards...
Now I am a people person and I have my presentation together, I don't know what I am doing wrong or what step to take short of buying one at a scrap yard. By the way, what do they run if I have to go that route?
Thanks
Kevin

Re: Practice Glass
Sorry to hear it is that hard for you. Worst case scenario, buy a used windshield or flat laminated glass.

I can't imagine that a junk yard would charge much (if anything) for a broken windshield. The ones around here will let you have them if they've already removed usable interiors. You do have to remove the glass yourself though, at least around here.

Some of my customers call me an artist.Tell the replacement companies you want it for a work of art.
I cannot understand why they have a problem with you having the glass in most cases they have to pay totake it away.
Try a bodyshop they will not be treating you as opposition. Just in case you wondered every one of the replacement guys around here will let us have screens for practise use. You just got to ask in a certain way.

Ask at some car dealers that dont want the old junk cars around. They may let you practice on a car that is going for scrap. Heck tell them once you get good youll give them a few free repairs. You may find they let you practice on their inventory if its free! just a thought.
Re: Practice Glass
I finally got with a glass company and they are cutting me some practice sheets. I know it's not the same as a windshield in a car...But it's better then nothing at all! \

Glad to hear you got some practice glass. Stick with that before you go out and work on anyones personal vehicle or inventory. Make sure you know without a doubt your are doing quality repairs. If your not sure, then your not ready. Be patient the learning curve is relativley small. It will do your confidence and your reputation wonders. Remember, sometimes the first impression is the only impression you will get the chance to make, so make sure it is consistantly good.
