I would never do this either. In fact I had the liberty of seeing a repair last week on a vehicle that had a combination break repaired this way(or what appeared to be this way). At first I didn't even think the combo break had been repaired but I couldn't feel the impact point and there was an obvious bullseye that had been filled that surrounded the entire combo break. It made me wonder if perhaps the bullseye and the combo break were at different depths in the glass and the combo legs never received resin? I don't know because I have never tried to do a repair this way. As previously stated the legs usually fill with no problem and are way less visible than the repair I saw last week so I am not changing my style.
BTW, I have no idea who performed the repair I saw. It was on a rental car so it could have come from anywhere. Maybe it was just a bad repair.
