Re: Damp in a repair

After my last post I got to thinking that it has been about 15 years since I saw how a windshield was made so I did a Google search and found a new video. It's shorter than the one I remember, but also more modern. No more people handling the sheets of glass like in the old days I guess, and the way the windshields go into the autoclave is also different than I remember. http://www.vtap.com/topic.html?da=pc&pg ... srn=valued

Nice video Brent, has been on Discovery Channel. I can clearly remember a glass show and NWRA meeting in Minneapolis MN, some three or four years ago. In addition to the show and meeting we went with a group of people (by bus, it was an hours drive) to a windshield manufacturing plant. I forgot the name of the plant. It was a very interesting trip, although it's not too long ago, there was still a lot of manual work at that location done, and windshields were certrainly ''touched by human hands'' back then. We took a piece of scrapped PVB laminate back home for our training room.

Yes Thats true about the old way of making windscreens I used to find eye lashes and all sorts in there . The company that I am leaving manufacture windscreens also .In 14 years its all changed there is robots instead of people and crates full of brand new flat glass .its amazing to watch the windscreen being manufactured from the glass coming out of the crate to sticking the mirror boss on and coming out the other end looking like a windscreen . Its funny in the old days when it was all done by hand they could`nt get the sun band right, instead of the sunband following the curve of the glass it was straight .It looked weird ,they have curved ones now .
