What happens if you approach a car with a crack and realized later that the crack is over a month old when you asked the customer? Do you still want to attempt to fix the crack or do you move on and not waste time with it. I asked a lot of my friends with cracks and most said they have those cracks for over 6 months. They said it never spread so they just ignored it. Do you come up to a windshield all excited and later found out it

Call me cynical;), but in my experiences, I've found that folks with cracks in their windshields fall into one of two categories:

1. Those that notice a crack and immediately want to have it repaired/replaced. And

2. Those that are apathetic and want to let it go as long as they can. Of course, once it gets bad enough and they price a new windshield, they then try and find a WSR "guy" to fix it for them and expect miracles.

Case 1 - is a no brainer!!! I've actually had an experience where I was having dinner at my favorite steakhouse and somebody drove by and noticed my graphics. They actually went inside the eatery, found me and begged me to fix their crack ASAP as it had just happened and they didn't want the damage to progress any further. Heck, they not only offered to pay my rate, but offered to buy my meal (as an aside, the place ain't cheap http://www.folksfolly.com ).

Case 2 - I avoid. Much easier to create a "sense of urgency" with a star, bull or combo as the selling point is saving the customers windshield and preventing it from cracking out.

BTW - My steakhouse stalker's vehicle was a Porsche Boxter!

Sometimes there are some people who may not want to pay the cost of a crack repair. In this case we'll stop the crack for $10-$20.

How bout hte Audi I saw a couplw weeks ago at the car wash had a small crack 3"? coming out of a star told her I could fix it she was rude said it had been the same for along time and went through the car wash BOOM it had 2 legs that ran across the whole windshield when she came out of the wash Couldnt help but laugh when she stopped to ask if it was to late to fix it

In the past I would just "stop" the crack if I felt like I could'nt make a complete repair look good, or if the customer did'nt want to fork out the money for a real repair.I think it was actually worse for my reputation than if I had just left it alone because the customer is still passing on to others that I"fixed" the crack.Now I simply tell them that I don't do anything If I can't do it right.

I wonder if there would be a liability issue if one just "stopped" a crack, an airbag deploys in an accident and the windshield fails at the crack location resulting in injury or death?
