OK, I am just getting into this (havn't even ordered my kit yet, waiting to hear back from Jeff at Delts on Something) anyways all delta says that you get about 100 repairs from a bottle of resin, I wanted to see if this is the number that those of you useing delta kit and their resins are getting on average in the real world.
Thanks in advance.

How Many Repairs from each botttle of Resin?

Post by Anonymous »

First, let me say welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of windshields.

As to how many repairs per bottle, first it depends on the size bottle, of course. But even then, the number of repairs depends on how you adminster the resin... I would say on average, I use 3 to 5 drops of resin per repair. This ensures a good fill without too much waste. I suppose from a half ounce of resin I would normally get up to 100 repairs. Again, it depends on how much resin is used per repair. Some chips can be done with only a drop or two. Others, such as the bullseyes and larger star breaks are thirstier.
As you become familiar with your equipment, and more skilled at evaluating each break, you will probably find yourself using less resin than what you will use as you are learning.
I wish you much success in this wonderful business.

If I only got 100 repairs out of a bottle... that means I spilled most of the bottle.

There are many factors to consider, as Grace mentioned. If you use 5 or 6 drops per repair, you should easily get 100 repairs... probably a lot more. Just don't spill it... once I spilled over half an ounce from a bottle. :"> :">

I really doubt you will get over 400 drops of resin out of a 1/2 ounce bottle. this is where jeff would say right, you only get this many. and I will not be testing my bottle for you, this is a good question and can be awnsered, but by who.
and really if you got 2o repairs done out of the 1/2 ounce bottle and it cost you 40 bucks it would really cost you 2 dollars per repair. and if you got 40 out of it it would be a buck per repair, still cheap in my book.

please mr. wizard tell us how many drops are in a 1/2 oz bottle of resin.

Crackkilss WSR,

The ammount will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and damage to damage types. Some manufacturers might reccomend slightly more then is needed as a rule of thumb to handle most repairs.

In a general way, you may consider 0.04 ml / 1 drop. Which is about 20 drops per ml from a standard eye dropper or pipette.
Of course, it depends on a number of factors like type of solution, temperature, viscosity, molecular weight and dropper opening diameter etc.

This will vary per manufacturer viscosity. Check with your manufacturer or the MSDS/TDS sheets should provide you the viscosity information as well other info. This formula will only give you anaccurate volume per bottle not total repairs per bottle since each repair may require more or less. Time and skill will allow you the ability to maximze your resin usage.

Note: I am not an authority on resin conversions so please always consult your product manufacturer.

I hope this helps you out.

Pay it foward,

Brian

There is roughly 700 - 750 drops of resin in a 1oz bottle correctly filled. Viscosities will change this number slightly but it is a good average.

How many?

Thanks, you guys are helpful, Let me foolw with a more direct question, I know that the number will vary, and viscosity will effect, But any of you have an idea of how many repairs you are actually getting on average. I figure that if you are doing various types of repairs that should give a decent average figure. so anyone actually keeping record of how many repairs they are getting from an ounce?
Thanks

Actually, Delta Kits says that you will get approximately 100 repairs per ounce (not per bottle) using up to 15 drops per repair. This is assuming that you are using a resin that has a viscosity of 20 cps or less. The testing that we did to come up with that figure was not terribly scientific, but I think pretty fair none the less. We used the dropper that comes with the Premium Bond resin to count the drops in one ounce of resin and then repeated the test 10 times. We then ran the same test with a plastic squeeze bottle of MagniBond. Each time we came up with over 1500 drops per ounce. Divide 1500 by the 15 drops that we feel is the maximum you will use for even the largest windshield repair, and you come up with 100 repairs per ounce.

Many of the other posts were absolutely right. There are many factors that can change that number and it may be a bit on the conservative side, but it was only intended to be a guide, not an exact figure.

Sprinter, yes, there can be close to 400 drops in a 1/2 oz bottle. This depends on the viscosity, of course... thicker resins will have larger, thus fewer drops.

I actually kept track of the number of drops from a bottle last winter. This was a thin resin, so I assume there would be more drops than with other resins, but I don't know how much more.

Right now I can't find the card that has the #s but I will be looking for it... hopefully I will find it soon and post info. I know it was at least in the 800- 1000 drop range, and probaby more than that.

So if I used 4-5 drops per repair, that's 200+ repairs. I probably use 6-8 drops per repair now because I like to.
