Need Help On Sales Pitch for Tough Customers

Post by BmwJunkie »

I found a Bullseye on a 1985 maxima today. I went into the business I thought the owner my be at and asked whos car it was. I got lucky, the person I asked said it was his. So anyway, I did my sales pitch and the guy said "how much"? I told him It was at no charge to him as long as he had full coverage. He said no I don't. I then said I charge 50 bucks for the first and 10 for each additional. He then proceded to say that the bullseye had been there for 7 years and had no problrems with it. So he said no. I tryed to get him to change his mind but I think he was just a cheap you know what. Anyway, what do I say to someone who says that? Do I just say ok and leave? I pushed the sale, but it did not work to my advantage.

Thanks, Scott P

I don't try to 'sell' these guys. I agree with them that if the break's been there that long, it probably isn't going to do anything.
Then I give them my card with all the info on it and I tell them that if they ever get a chip they need fixed, they can find me in the local shopper or the yellows.
My sales pitch is that I have no sales pitch.
I give information and advice, I make myself available, and I let them come and find me. This way I'm being hired to do a job and it's the customer doing the hiring and the decision-making. If you grind your customers until they give in to a sales pitch, they aren't as likely to become loyal customers or refer you to friends.
As with a lot of these kinds of things, if you don't already know what's being said here, you probably don't like it and it won't work for you.

Since it became obvious that he wasn't biting maybe you could prepare him for a future sale. Something alone these lines maybe; "I can see your point. Here's my card, if that chip starts to run on you or you receive another one don't hesitate to give me a call. I would hate to see you pay $300 - $400 hundred dollars for a new windshield when you can restore the integrety of this one for a mere $50."

That way you educate him a little as to what new one cost compared to a new one and you leave him worring about his windshield cracking out. Could be a sale next week or his wife's newer car might get a chip in the way home. Just a thought!
