Long Cracks
Long Cracks
How do you guys charge for long cracks? Is it just fixed price, or you just charge per length? Do insurance companies pay for long crack repairs? All replies are appreciated! Thank you!
Re: Long Cracks
try and qualify the repair first. Make sure it is not to old or dirty.when quoting by phone always add a few inches to what customer says.

Re: Long Cracks
In the US, most insurance companies will pay for a crack up to 6 inches in length depending on where the crack is located (general statement). I charge by the length taking into account where the crack is located and age.

Always, qualify the repair first even if it's given to you by the insurance company's.....I just had a job come over about 2 day's ago and I was told it was a chip repair, when I got to the customer's home, it was a 4 inch crack that reached the bottom of the windshield, below the seal, needless to say I was disappointed but I recommended replacement,
however I would have charged the customer about 40 dollars for this crack if it were not sent over by the insurance company and I was able to repair it.

A $40 price tag for any retail repair is why the bottom is falling out of this business.

There is a replacement shop in town that advertises in the phone book that they repair a chip for $15.00 and if there is a second one on the same windshield it is repaired free.

Re: Long Cracks
GFD77 Why on earth did you not do the repair. If you cannot do a 4 inch crack I suggest you need a lot more practise, sorry to sound so hard but thats the way it is.
Do not worry what price others charge I am the most expensive around here, and just read my signature. Very few replacement guys will repair for low bucks why should they is does them out of business. Just think if you were a replacement company would you rather have $15 or $150. Replacement shops doing repairs is like getting your plumber to do your electrics the 2 do not go together. SELL SELL SELL This point to your customers. This applies to everyone in repair.
Repair to replacement shops is the carrot and the stick to a donkey.

Cannot is different than will not. Can't speak for GFD77, but many people choose not to do cracks.screenman wrote:GFD77 Why on earth did you not do the repair. If you cannot do a 4 inch crack I suggest you need a lot more practise, sorry to sound so hard but thats the way it is.

There is a canadian tire store in my region that says chip repair-$20.they also sell replacement.I'm hoping to talk to customers of them to see if this is a bait and switch tactic to sell replacements.I'm staying at $50. for bulls and stars. Cracks $60. and up.
