Re: plateglass repair
I am the Roadie in Southern NJ. I went to Las Vegas in Oct 2006 and took a very good intro course with GM. Shelby was my teacher. The square backer in my kit has a hole in the center for the crack expander to screw into to apply pressure to it. The suction cups in the crack expander adhere to the glass best when coated with Vaseline.
First take a square piece of curing film and place it over the large side of the plateglass bullseye (cleaned). Then the square backer, then the crack expander. With crack expander, screw square backer at the hole tight enough to hold the whole assembly on. Leave 1/16 of an inch at the top of the bullseye open to allow air to escape.
Now fill up your injector with a good amount of plate glass resin and position over the pit on the other side of the glass. Slowly inject it until it comes out of the 1/16 opening on the other side. No need for a vacuum cycle. Make sure all the air is out then slide the square backer assembly up to close the hole. Tighten just a little more and cure for 20 minutes with UV light. When done curing, remove everything from both sides and put on finishing touches. Do not scrape the large side of the repair with a razer blade. leave it alone.
