Re: very slow repair buz
I am sorry to sound harsh on this but at those prices you should not be in our business, you are way to cheap.
By being this low you are sending out the message you do not do quality work, as well as making the job harder for the real techs. I do not feel that repair and replacement should go together, will there not always be the temptation for the bigger buck?
If you want more work first put up your prices then walk the streets and knock on doors, just placing ads will not fill your shop. Be pro-active not inactive.
Shout out you are the best in the business not the cheapest, nobody ever regrets buying quality.
If this post upsets anybody I apologise now. I am writing as I see it and would say the same thing to anyone in any business.
Mind you I am 50 now and have not retired yet so maybe it is best not to listen to me.

Screenman...I agree with you. It is the cheap price that impacts our business. Maybe this guy buys the inferior resins!

Re: very slow repair buz
It sounds to me as if you need to survey your local market, I did a labor market survey and some other homework prior to getting started in the business. In my market I found the PRO's charged $35.00 and 10.00 for each additional. I also found that ALL replacement shops did the local dealers FOR FREE!!!!!!!!! Now we do dealers and fleets and personal customers and if I had to go in blind and find out what the local market values were hunt and peck I would still be trying to figure it out!!!! If you plan on doing business educate your self!!! The folks here are a good source but I live in a small community that has a depressed economy and I do very well because I am a member of the community and I do for my neighbors and they appreciate that and the one hand washes the other is the standard here so!!!!!!!
Call around to see what your market will bear, then remember what the finest and most successful businessman I have met said,"always leave the table of negotiations a winner, leave something on the table, be certain the other members of that negotiation leave the table feeling the same way"
"If you can apply this printable you'll win in business"

My best mentor one said " be fair with your priceing but never too low, be honest with your customer/competition, when the day is done be sure you have done "good works", and always leave something of value on the barganing table!!

i'm so glad theres honest people on here..
it helps people like me who are interested in starting up
get a better understanding of the business.....
i personally have asked people over and over and over..
usually i would think if i start a business most of my
family and close friends would have use for my services..
but actually not in this situation.. i couldn't find one
person i knew that wanted my services.. even if it was free..
they'd rather change out their windshield or they feel like
it don't matter cuz the car is just a "beater"...
35 bucks a pop is quite a ways from making your 1k back from the kit's price

Oops principal is the correct spelling :eusa_shif
And while it seems as though it is difficult to do well at that rate consider this, I average around $150.00 per hour on fleets, $300.00 per day (4-6hrs) on pop-ups. At times I'll do $300.00 per hour. In my neck of the woods I know people who don't make that in a week. Ya just gotta work out the bugs and make people happy as you can and they will flock to you!!!
Great friendly quality service = happy customers = many customers = success.

Re: very slow repair buz
We have found over in the Uk that general advertising is a very bad return on your money. That the best way to sell this product of ours is face to face.
I cannot understand how when I started in this business 18 years ago you were getting $45 for a chip and charging extra for the second and third ones.
What has happened to the salesmen over there, we were led to believe that you guys over the pond were the best salesmen in the world. Come on get out there and start selling.
As Eric used to say, do not wait for your boat to come in swim out and get it.
Put the leg work in and keep going the rewards will come.
I am possible one of the most expensive screen repair guys in my area but I am never short of work. Thats because I am the best and I let my customers know it all the time. Do not be shy let the world know you are the best, this goes out to all of you.
