window tinting ... read please
window tinting ... read please
My question is.. is there alot of profit in window tinting if marketed correctly. You would think that it would be a great business and easier to market than windshield repair. Has anyone added this service to their windshield repair business?
Thanks

I actually have a little bit of experience doin it... Its actually extremely easy and pays quite a bit more than windshield repair plus it seems like more ppl would be interested in the service.

As anyone who has been to see us including Delta themselves would know we run a very proffesional tinting business.
It is certainly not easy to do tinting to a high standard, it takes a good deal of training and practise. My partner in the tinting business has been tinting for about 8 years. We run 5 day training courses for anyone looking to get into the business, this will only get you to a standard where you will have the knowledge to go away and practise.
One of the hardest parts to learn and practise is actualy shrinking the film to fit the glass. Film is flat most car glass is curved the two do not go together without a lot of effort. On top of this you will need to know how to remove and fit drop glasses, fitting film to these without removal looks very unproffesional.
Check out the prices and competition for tinting in your area, check out the need for a dust free enviroment to install film, yes I know some people do it outside, looks fine at first but you will get lots of dirt marks appearing in the future.
Can it make more than screen repair, depends how good you are at selling, if you are good at selling screen repair you are unlikey to make more money tinting. However in the States there is a lot bigger demand for flat glass film, safety film etc. This business is very competitive I have heard of 60 firms chasing one contract and that was over here.
As with any business do your homework and look out for snake oil salesmen.
This is my proffesional opinion and I am sure many will disagree.

A 42 inch plotter is not cheap and then you need a laptop to run it. This is how my buddy does his. He is mobile with a huge enclosed trailer.
Re: window tinting ... read please
I had a go at the tinting biz a few years back, done 3 days training and I could do it but I only done the training so I would be able to offer tinting when work went quiet. Never had time to practise and the few jobs I did do took me all day and I was not really happy with the results, mainly due to the fact of the tiny bits of dust you get in the film. You had to really look very close to see it and I never had a unhappy customer but I am fussy so I decided to sell my film and concentrate on what I was previously doing.
I have seen and work with lots of different tinters and only 1 or 2 can do a very clean job! Like anything, it depends how good you are and how fast you can work, if you are good and work fast there can be good money in it.
But its not for me, I just get mad:mad:

Yes there is a lot of profit in window tinting. It is also seasonal work. I would not mix it with windshield repair.

It's true.... in cold climates anyway, winter can be very slow. I've heard this myself from a tint shop.

4-5 jobs a week would be pretty awesome for the profits or even maybe 3-4. It really dosent cost all that much to set up right?
