fixed tent location question

Post by pbaker »

I am going to work out of a fixed tent location this spring/summer and have been reading past threads on this subject, but am a little confused on the vendor permit stuff. For those of you who do this, do you have to just keep getting those 30 permits even if you have a ma and pa's business that is willing to let you set up?

That depends on your local. I don't have to have anything, just permission from a property owner if your renting from them.
30 permits? Where you live? Naziland?

OOPS! "30 permits" was supposed to say "30 day permits". But thanks for letting me know. Looks like i need to check with the city.

Another thought... make sure that your city does not require a 5'X8' handicap accessible restroom for employees. Depending on the "nazi-ness" of your local government, this could be an issue. Another issue (and probably a different city bureaucrat) is signage. Some municipalities only allow a certain square footage of signs based on your suare footage of business space... Another issue is parking space requirements. Many municipalities have formulas to prevent a super Wal-Mart from ony having 4 parking spaces... if your setup location has the bare minimum spaces, the city might not want another business being added to the lot.

This is all ridiculous stuff, and all of your competitors are probably honorable capitalists that intend to compete with a superior service at a better price... ;) but in case any of them are sniveling rats, it would suck to have invested all the time and money into the location only to learn from the city a week later that you must leave on a technicality...

If you are confused about a vender permit during the spring and summer months that may cause you not to want to do your work. This may also make the property owners and customer confused to.
You may want to re think your tent idea and maybe sell hot dogs or soda.
