Frustrated

Post by CHRIS »

Hello All. Im In The Process Of Starting Everything Up. Been Practicing With Delta Equipment On A Windshield In My Garage. I Have Been Using A Centerpunch To Make Breaks (mostly Combination Breaks With Alot Of Star Legs). I Cant Seem To Get The Legs To Fill Completely. I Now Realize The Importance Of Practice And Training. Most Of My Repairs Are Leaving A Hairline Crack Visible Throughout The Entire Repair Process On All The Legs. And They Remain When Im Done. Should They Be Completey Gone? I Just Want To Be Practicing The Right Way Until I Can Get Out For Training. Any Tips Or Advise You Can Give Me For Practicing With The I100 Injector Would Be Appreciated!!!

Chris, yes those P.I.T.A. hairline cracks are going to remain visible ,always go over with your customer what they can expect because alot of them expect the repair to not be visible at all.Explain that the repair will look a lot better but it will still be somewhat visible, just to cover your a--!

I have watched the Step-by-Step Windshield Repair 30 minutes DVD time after time , just to see how the injector is being applicated .
To have it explained to me in writing and with pictures I ordered the Training Manuel .
Go this route to better understand the cycle.

Hairline cracks still visible, I would certainly hope not. The repair should end up looking like a dried raindrop and nothing else. That is if you are doing nice clean new damage, of course things can be different when water and dirt get in. It is important to get training. It is hard to describe all the detail that goes into a screen repair if we have no idea how much you know already.

Thanks For The Responses On This Post. I Do Plan On Formal Training But Just Want To Start Practicing In The Mean Time. I Have Read This Forum Over And Over For The Past 8 Months And Am Trying Different Things On The Breaks. I Just Cant Get Those Hairline Cracks To Fill. I Have Tried Pressure On Both Sides Of Glass With Probe But They Wont Fill. Most Of The Star It Self Will Fill But Im Still Being Left With The Hairline. However, I Am Still Practicing And Am New To All This. Any Techs In South Jersey Area Using Delta Equip. Willing To Train?

Take it easy on yourself buddy. It is typical for those results on star breaks no matter what system you use.

Chris,
Define HAIRLINE? On MOST any DAMAGE you will always see some scarring left. When I finish a star- You can see, where the legs were what looks like a piece of your hair inside the windshiled. If you are seeing more than this the legs did NOT fill.In other words if the star had 4 legs-you should see 4 pieces of hair (where the unfilled legs were) and also what sccreenman was saying about a water droplet or whatever he called it. You should not see the original unfilled legs. I know it is hard to explain but I tried.

If looking down the legs, you may see a hairline/scar. But if looking through the legs, you should see nothing. Any reflection means it isn't filled. Sounds like you are putting to much pressure on your injector tip. Remember, the injector tip seal should only be tight enough to not leak. Any tighter and you will force flex those legs closed from the pressure or cause them to expand..

I think I am fairly skilled in the techniques approved by DK for there equipment. I live in Eastern PA on the border. If you do not mind traveling a short distance I am sure we could work something out. Let me know if you are interested.
