New UK AMA standards on the way
Just a note to all UK repairers to watch out for the new industry standards being rolled out across the motor industry by Thatcham and the IMI. These will eventually incorporate windscreen fitting which will also include repairs too and at the moment A/G and A/W are working on incorporating these standards into their training schemes for fitters. The idea is for it to become like a CORGI scheme where you have to have it to do the job and you will find the insurers will insist on it too like in the old days of BS5750. It may be good to stamp out some of the car park cowboys but it will be another layer of needless red tape foisted on us by the government for our own good. The threat is if the big boys hijack the process in the same way A/G did when trying to ban repairs in the wiper sweep. The other thing will be if it is just too weak to do any good like the present so called "British Standards" which are now mostly irrelevant.
