Have you ever arrived at a job , only to discover that the customers windshield is very dirty?
As you clean it, how do you avoid contaminating the chip? :eusa_doh:

Re: Dirty Windshield
Would you rather they had just washed it with a bucket of soapy water. We always tell the customer not to wash the screen, this helps avoid any contamination. Also I only wipe around the damaged area making sure no moisture etc gets into the damage. If you really want to clean the whole screen before you start place a chip saver over the damage prior to cleaning.
33,000 + screen repairs over 18 years and still learning.

Re: Dirty Windshield
I clean everyone before I repair gives the suction cup a better grip and gives you a better look at the damage

I tell the cust. not to clean it even when they say it is totaly messy... When I get to the customer I look it over inside and out to make sure there is no more chips that they may have missed, then I will cover the break and wash it down and work it from there.. You may even use a suction cup to cover the chip and wash the sheild down to get the bugs and guts off.... DO NOT wet the suction cup to stick it on the glass, it will stay there for a short time just dry sticking it on.

Re: Dirty Windshield
Sometimes I will clean a small area if needed just for the suction cup.
Most times I don't even do that. I usually only clean the windshield after I complete the repairs. I see no reason to end up cleaning it twice.

Re: Dirty Windshield
I agree with splitpit. I rarely clean a windshield before I repair it. I've never ran into a windshield that was so dirty that I couldn't spot a rock chip on it. although I did have a windshield last week that I had to scape tree pitch off of. There was pitch all over the truck, I ended up throwing away my hood protector afterwards.
