My name is Glen and I am in Houston Texas. I am literally just getting into the business. There are a couple of things that I need to get informed on and maybe someone can help. #1 Obtaining a business license. What needs to be done in respect to this? #2 I am reading things concerning taxes. Is a repair taxed or is it a service which is not taxed. In other words, if I do a repair do I tax the customer. Where does the winshield repair business fall in this area?
#3 Concerning insurance claims. If I am billing insurance companies myself what is the procedure in order to make it all happen from the time that I am with the customer. If you can be a bit detailed on this point. I have read a number of things but always seem to come away with questions.
Any input concerning any of these is appreciated and any other info you think I might need in getting started. Thanks

Welcome to the windshield repair forum GP. This link may be of interest to you: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/corp/related.shtml. One of my employees also private messaged you with this link.
Since there is not a sales tax in Oregon I'm no expert on that subject, but I know that in some states a service business with no parts is not taxed, but a service that replaces parts is. Therefore it is extremely important that you make it very clear you are performing a service only, and "not" replacing parts when you register with the state. I'm sure others on the windshield repair forum can be much more helpful with this, particularly those from Texas.
As for insurance billing, it is much easier to explain over the telephone due to the fact that we can answer most if not all of your questions in one call so you don't have to go through a 3 day process. On the other hand, since you chose to post here rather than make the call in the first place, I'm sure others will chime in with some helpful information.
Good luck!
