I need an invoice
I need an invoice
Could any of you please email me a go-by simple invoice to start using. Right now, I'm going to do cash and checks only. No insurance stuff yet, so I suppose the person I'm doing the repair for, should get something on paper from me in case they want to turn it in into their insurance, right? I sure need to think of a name for my business. This is where my OCD comes in and wont let me decide. It drives me crazy that I cant pick one out. I do have several to choose from, but balk everytime I think I have one picked out. would it be ok to post alll of my name possibilities for all of you to pick over? you guys, i'm sure could tell me which ones I shouldnt use for various reasons, and maybe come up with one or two to choose from.
Re: I need an invoice
As I said in another post, If you have a good name, a nick name in town try that one, or the name of the town included. Don't mane it complicated to were some one can't remember it.
Your name here Windshield Repair Service.
_____________ Mobile Windshield Repair.
When you bought from GT, Did you buy the startup kit that had most of all the papers you would need to start and run a business or just the injector set?
They use to have the invoices, inspection sheets, Logos to use if you wanted to use their name and other stuff.
But that was back in the GOOD old days...
Call them and see it they have them to send out still. Check with Rory and tell them I had you call for that info.
If not there is a few pics floating on this site from others asking.

Re: I need an invoice
My business name is "Mobile Windshield Repair". Even though this name is simple and it definately spells out what I do, the name is too generic and I wish I had come up with something snazzier to begin with years ago._____________ Mobile Windshield Repair
I suggest coming up with a short name, and if you plan on someday setting up a website, it would be nice to register the name you like so that you can use it in all your adverting. You don't want the same problem as me... My business name is completly different from my website because my business was started about 8 years before I ever even knew what the internet was. I'm thinking of changing my business name to match my website because my website has a simple two-word name and is quite short and is easy to remember.
Just something to think about.

Re: I need an invoice
When I first started in the windshield repair business I used the name Precision Windshield Repair, but found that it was too common place for customers to remember. We used the name Glass Repair Service for a number of years, but found that people did not associate the name with anything. We changed the name to Apple Auto Glass and had my Aunt create a very cool apple/hot rod logo that caught people's attention. Obviously we used Apple to get near the front of the yellow pages, but found that people really liked our logo and remembered the name for the simple reason that apples have nothing to do with windshield repair.
Someone else mentioned the name Aardvark Windshield Repair to get in the front of the yellow pages. We actually have a customer with that name, and I think they would tell you that customers remember it because it is so unusual and brings a visual picture to mind. It is also a name that would be fun to create a logo for.
Whatever name you decide on, be sure you check to see if anyone else in your city, state, or even in the US has already registered that name, and if so, how large of an area their registration covers. When you are small this is usually not a big deal, but as you grow and expand your competitors will come gunning for you if you chose a name they registered first.
If you never plan to work outside of your city or state you don't have to worry about going any further, but keep in mind that if you change your mind a competitor may have already registered your name everywhere else to limit your expansion, at least under that particular name. One you choose a name and a logo try to stick with it and market it as heavily as possible so it will sound and/or look familiar to people even if they have never needed your service.

Re: I need an invoice
I've been in Canada now for almost 5 years. Most of my biz experience is from the states though, so here's how I remember it...
Most states/cities require a name search before officially registering and issuing a business license, to make sure someone else in that state doesn't already have the same or similiar name. Since some names are generic enough for other businesses to use, you can still register the name, but you take a chance the other company could contest it. For example I am "Superior Touch Restoration". We registered that name even though there is a Superior Propane and I think one or two other Superior something anothers around. We took the chance it wouldn't be contested. And it wasn't. Contrarily, if someone tried registering McDonald's Fry Burgers I bet that would get nicely contested by the original McDonald's found in every city in the country.
Once you get the biz name registered (and therefore able to get a bank account in that name), concerning the invoices the easiest way to start is to just go down to Walmart (or Staples) and pick up a couple of carbonless duplicate 5" X 8" invoice books. Bring the invoice book into Staples or Office Depot and order a stamp that has the same color of print as the invoice book. (I'd bet that would be blue). The stamp should be in simple block style print, top line name of company, 2nd line address, 3rd line city, state, zip, and 4th line phone number. The reason to bring the invoice book into the store is to make sure the stamp will comfortable fit into the top space of the invoices. Neatly pre-stamp every invoice page, so you're ready to use out in the field. You can also double up usage of the stamp for monthly statements and return addresses for all business correspondence. It will always come in handy. Later you can then order printed invoice books in volume which of course looks a little nicer.
What to put on the invoice once you do the work is pretty easy; Just write the type of vehicle and next to it "windshield chip repair", and the amount you charge in far right column. If it's dealer work, then you'll need to put down the stock number next to the vehicle description. If it's a retail job, you'll need to add any applicable taxes. If it gets paid by cash or check, then write paid at the bottom and sign your name with perhaps also the words thank you.

Great advice. I'm going to Staples now and do just what you said to do. Thanksjayjacque;31241 wrote:I've been in Canada now for almost 5 years. Most of my biz experience is from the states though, so here's how I remember it...
