Leveling the bridge

Post by Mr Bill »

When leveling the Delta B300 bridge assy I am supposed to tighten the back screws 1.5 turns after they come in contact with the glass. Then I am supposed to tighten the injector 3/4 turn after it comes in contact with the glass.
My question is:
Do you ever back up on the rear screws to help level the injector rather than tightening them?

If you are not doing a vertical repair and you do not have a windshield with a pronounced curve you should be seating your injector first then adjust your leveling screws. Once the injector is seated, 1/2 to 3/4 additioanl turn should be sufficient. Then adjust your leveling screws about the same. The key thing here is to make sure the seal is seated squarely with the glass and it is just tight enough to prevent a leak.

If you are doing a vertical reapair you will need to use your leveling screws to create a forward pitch so the resin will stay at the tip. It will not take much pitch and you may be able to create enough tip pressure that you will not need to adjust the injectoror. If you do have to adjust the injector just enough so it does not leak. You bridge will be mounted below the damage. In this case you will not have a level bridge.

On a pronounced curve you you will have to adjust both injector and levelings screws as you try position the seal so it will seat squarely with the glass. Quite often the leveling screws will contact the glass first. Pay attention to the angle of the seal in relation to the glass. Again the objective is to have a squarely seated seal with as little press as possible to prevent a leak. In this case you will not have a level bridge either.

If you find that the break is not filling it may be becuase you have over tightened either the injector or the leveling screws to much which could choke off the damge preventing resin flow. Feel free to adjust as needed.

It will not always be possible to have a perfectly level bridge, most of the time you can get close except in those scenarios I mentioned and then it is for a technical purpose.

1. Do your best to get the bridge level and to get the seal seated squarely
2. Use just enough tip pressure to prevent a leak.
3. If you have to make an adjustment go right ahead as long as it does not leak.
